NASCAR has suspended a Sprint Cup driver under terms of its substance abuse policy - immediately and indefinitely - in advance of Saturday nightís race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, ThatsRacin.com and The Charlotte Observer have learned.

Sources said the driver, who has not been identified by officials, was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book. The determination was based on findings at last weekendís race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

NASCAR on Saturday declined to discuss the matter, saying that questions would be dealt with in a news conference at the South Carolina track on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Such a suspension would be the first under NASCARís drug policies for a driver at the top level, the Spring Cup Series.

Actually, JB7 would have been my guess for first comment on it, but it was too easy a softball to not hit...LOL......
+1 was slacking and not checking the board! :)

but well done in my stead....lol
or me.
what happens if the guy is bald?
In the paperwork we received it said they would take hair from anyplace on the body, if no hair existed it was logged as a failed test
Hair needs to be removed from the root to the tip of the hair sample. This will give an accuracy of about 1-1/2 years.
yes a hair test....we are not worried about if he did it recently....just while he was racing, none of the drivers want to be out there with him if he might relapse.
According to affidavits submitted to court by NASCAR, he took meth right before a race in Darlington in 1999. If true, maybe more drivers should try it - Jeremy finshed 2nd and 3rd in the two Darlington races in 1999.
Jeremy did submit the results of a test to the court, the test he took 40 minutes after giving a sample to NASCAR. Read this entire article at SceneDaily.com: Jeremy Mayfield submits evidence he says proves he tested negative ....

So far the only things going before a court are motions for injunctions, etc. All of the evidence will come out when this actually goes to trial - and that probably won't be for quite a while. Until then, we will only see bits and pieces of what evidence each side has.
What has haunted me from day one is the comment that Dr. Black's (Aegis) lab was "doing a favor" for NASCAR. Depending on how that favor was conducted, that doesn't sound so good either. Medical Courtesy is a thing of the past and now illegal.
Also needs to be about the size of a #2 pencil, thickness-wise.
I was heavily ashamed of Mayfield when this story broke, and over time thought "What a waste!", but the more and more information that comes out, I have to say I'm not sure who to believe.

If Mayfield has lied and gets busted, he will go down in history as one of the biggest idiots in sports.

If Nascar has done something wrong and unfair to Mayfield and it comes out...Watch out! It will be one of the biggest controversial acts by a company, placing Nascar side by side with Enron. The government would slap Nascar hard.
