NASCAR has suspended a Sprint Cup driver under terms of its substance abuse policy - immediately and indefinitely - in advance of Saturday nightís race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, ThatsRacin.com and The Charlotte Observer have learned.

Sources said the driver, who has not been identified by officials, was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book. The determination was based on findings at last weekendís race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

NASCAR on Saturday declined to discuss the matter, saying that questions would be dealt with in a news conference at the South Carolina track on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Such a suspension would be the first under NASCARís drug policies for a driver at the top level, the Spring Cup Series.

Sweeeet! Being from Phoenix I'm a huge Yeley fan...about time!!
That's bad news for Robby! Remember Robby had a good run going at the 600 until Crash Yeley pulled one of the dumbest moves I have ever witnessed in Nascar and wrecked him hard. "I didn't see him heading for pit road..."
well, at least the team is still going ,and I am sure JJ hasnt even been mentioned for many rides since he lost his last one.
He is a huge Golden Tee fan!
What JJ's side of the story was when he was with Gibb's he had good equipment, but the communication was not always the best. Chemistry is a must in this sport and his teams was lacking this. Also he mentioned that he was getting good cars, but because the 20 and 11 were having better success that they would get a new chassis while the 18 teams would would get the 20's 1 1/2 mile car that won last year. So it was a good proven car, but last years technology was not always what was working this year. There was a reason why the 20 team was building a new car. JJ did not want to leave Gibbs it was Gibbs that wanted to go another direction in hoping success would come to the 18 team, which it did with Kyle Busch. Smart move for Gibbs!

And with HOF JJ said after the first few races he could tell that HOF was not getting the same equipment that Gibbs was building for themselves. Gibbs originally denied this, and because HOF new owners were so confident that Gibbs was giving them top notch stuff they looked at other places like CC's and drivers. It was not until mid season that the HOF CC's were invited on Mondays to Gibb's shop to share info after the race. Then HOF new owners let JJ and a dozen employees go and got Brad Colman to bail out of his full time Busch contract. HOF let Brad drive 1 or 2 races before they pulled him out and put Ken Schrader in the seat. This was suppose to be a deal to help Brad. HOF later decided to work a deal with Gibbs and let Lagano drive some races. After only two races with a best finish of 32nd, Joey said the equipment was not the same as he tested with Gibbs, and the partnership went down hill. HOF realized what JJ was saying all along was true. (Quote from HOF partner Garfinkel; Garfinkel admitted, "We inherited a contract that didn't have a lot of flexibility to it. It was more of a customer-supplier relationship than an alliance. We were hopeful we could evolve the relationship in that direction, and that didn't take place.") Then HOF screws Brad and drops him, and now he is left without a ride when before the smoke and mirrors that HOF set up, Brad had a full time Busch deal and a part time Cup testing deal.
What I posted is from what I have heard from JJ as he would be on the Sirius Morning Drive show every week, and from what I read online. I'm sure there are a few other sides to this story, but that is pretty much JJ's side with a few other facts thrown in there. I'm sure Gibb's see's it a bit differently, HOF I'm sure see things a bit different too. But look at where HOF is now. No where even close to Gibbs. So I tend to think what JJ said is closer to the truth about the Gibbs/HOF deal. And then Garfinkel admitted they bought into a deal that was not what they thought.

Also from what JJ was saying Golden Tee is a video game that Him, Mike Baggly from the Morning Drive and a few other racers would play against each other. I guess JJ owns his own video game and he has been in a Golden Tee charity tournament.
Prescription allergy medication and nyquil, taken at the same time, could give results similar to being under the influence of methamphetamine's.

I'll give Mayfield the benefit of the doubt, but if he can't prove this with his doctor, that's a huge blow. This is along the lines of Fike shooting up heroin before racing, very very scary.
As to drug testing, you noticed that the lab is taking the defensive position that "In my many years of experience, I have never seen a violation like this due to the combination of over-the-counter or prescription products." Here is the link to the lab's webpage if you are interested:

BTW, the place seems to have no outstanding lawsuits against it and Dr. Black is listed as a court recognized expert witness.
Any ideas of the drug they suspect?
coke?
methamphetamine?
steroids?
weed?
I really hope that this turns into a mix up. I've never really been a Jeremy Mayfield fan but gained respect when he stepped up as an owner driver. If it is true and positive then Jeremy Mayfield is the stupidest driver ever to race a car.
Dr. Black has said that Claritin-D is a banned substance--clearly there is a broad reach of "banned substances"....

http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/cup-nascars-zero-tolerance-is-onl...
Not a big Mayfield fan, even less of a Mrs. Mayfield fan, but..... it's too soon to tell, but if Jeremy's excuse holds water.....it's OK for a driver to go out 5 nights a week and get shitface drunk, just don't use the crap sold by a Nascar sponsor!! How many banned substances have Nascar teams been willing to take money from, let's see, what was that stuff, Stacker 2? Banned by the FDA! Now Claritin-D, if that really got the guy in trouble, and maybe it should - DUH Nascar, it's allergy/cold medication, it puts a bag over your head! Why do you think they call it 'Claritin Clear' - it's called ADVERTISING, they have to counter the fact that it fucks you up! Damn, should they DQ Carl 'pusher man' Edwards too? I know it's alot to ask, but Nascar really needs to step into the 21st century, I know it's the Bible Belt, but seriously, it's 2009.... consult your doctor...! Maybe they should add alcohol abuse testing to their strip, that would be an eye opener!
