The results are in and the top thirty five is set. It looks a lot like it did after Homestead Miami.
There are only four cars in the top thirty five that weren’t there last year.
There are only five drivers in the top thirty five that weren’t there last year.
There is only one car and driver that moved into the top thirty, coming into the year as go or go homers, that’s John Andretti in the #34.
Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman were both in the top thirty five in points last year but their cars were not.
Allmendinger, Ambrose, and Stremme have all done incredible jobs of making the race and finishing well, Logano and Speed are barely holding on, the one thing they have in common is that they all are in the top thirty five from last year, this year the first three are in the top twenty five and Speed and Logano are 34th and 35th .
Andretti is 33rd and is the only small one car team go gor go homer that has managed to qualify into the first five races on time and finish well enough to get a top thirty five spot going into Martinsville.
JTG/Daugherty , Front Row and, Robby Gordon are the only one car teams that are in the top thirty five.
While my dislike of the top thirty five rule is no secret I think the next thing I dislike is no practice. If the small and new teams can’t get any practice then Nascar needs to drop the top thirty five rule and have all cars time their way in. We’ve seen cars that were faster than some in the top thirty five go home, I saw a car not even make a qualifying run get in the race while cars that did went home.
I just don’t know how much longer they can continue to ignore the smaller sponsors that are trying to support this sport and work with some smaller teams get in some races.
Right now the environment is perfect for some company’s to get the most bang for their buck in Nascar, Teams are giving good deals on hood space and there are a lot of new teams trying to sell these hoods. The downside being, if these teams aren’t given a fair chance to get in the race then Window World and All Sport are going to take their money and spend it somewhere else. Or are we only afraid of losing Budweiser?
How much money does it take to get noticed by Nascar?
If you can change the format for the All Star race every year, then you ought to be able to change a bad/outdated rule once in awhile.

I think I got lost in your overall point, but there are so many inept and incorrect statements above that I have to correct them…

John Andretti in an alliance with DEI and Front ROw Motorsports actually got the owner points from the 15 car and was locked in for the first 5 races (and stillis at 33rd after Bristol)

Wrong. Ryan Newman’s car was locked in for the first 5 races this year via the 66 Haas car piloted by Scott Riggs. Tony Stewart was not locked in, but with his untrumpable Past Champions Provisional, he was mathematically guaranteed a spot in the first 5 races no matter what

What are you smoking? Of the first 3 names you mentioned only Allmendinger had to qulaify on speed for the first 5 races (and it is to note that he, along with Tony Stewart, are the only drivers not locked in for the first 5 to make all first 5 races..but since Tony was in regardless due to his PCP, I give that honor solely to Allmendinger)/ Ambrose was locked in via the #00 pts from last year and Stremme inherited Ryan Newman’s #12 car pts which you referenced in the prior paragraph that Newmans car was locked in but he was not…lol

You are half right. Logano is holding on. Mr. Speed needs to qualify on time at Martinsvile….note to self

As you can see whatever point you were trying to make was lost on me in the multitude of errors in this blog post.
