Not sure how I feel about this issue. On the one hand I feel for the guys trying to run all of the races, on the other, they need to out perform the start and park teams. I know I would be mad if one of them got in the race over Robby, if he ever fell out to the top 35, but if they are taking the last few positions at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about him finishing a race last.

DID NASCAR ASK TEAMS TO START & PARK? SEEMS SO

Great post! Start and park avoids a sub 43 car field and in my opinion is necessary....right now! This inst Moto GP, 18 cars or 30 cars would hurt the sport that has had at times 64 cars in the field....I think NASCAR wanted it, they got it....and they might not be competitive but they work for now.....IMO
How does a parked car fill the field?
meredith this is how i feel everybody has to qualify on speed isn't that what QUALIFY means.
Once you earn your way into the field it should be your choice whether or not to fun the race. You earn that right by beating other people to qualify, its not a free pass by any means.
Yeah I think teams should be allowed to do whatever they want, it's their car and if they earned their way into the race then it's their prerogative to park it after 1 lap if they want.

Since we're on this stuff I will say another thing: I totally agree Meredith about everyone needing to qualify every week. However, since the chances of that happening are somewhere between slim and none I have another gripe: When qualifying is rained out, I don't think they should award starting position/pitstalls based on points, they should award them based on the random qualifying order drawing
How bout this for a change. No qualifying. Instead draw starting positions for everyone entered, then run 2 100 mile heat races that would determine the starting order of the 300 mile main event. As for too many cars if that becomes an issue, slowest cars in the slowest heat race go home. I think it might change the complexion of these long races that are sooooo boring until the last 30 laps. And by the way they should run about 3 more road races a year and include at least 1 of those in the chase.
This is why Dirt tracks are so awesome, its all wide open! No rest for the weary, Laying back..ect...Shootouts are great...I would say it will never happen though, Nascar will become an "entertainment" broadcast like WWE before it will run small sprints in Cup.....The truck series would be a good test bed!
Thank for the education. I did not know this happened
NASCAR condones this because. If they don't get a full field they are panelized buy the networks! $$$$$$$$$$
If RG pulled off for no reason I wouldn't be a fan anymore, I think it stinks. If you don't plan to race, open a restaurant or something with your money. Like so much of Nascar, it's artificial. Racers race, field-fillers don't help the sport in any way. And if they weren't there, other more serious teams could get in. If that means only 30 cars enter to race, so be it. and yes, I think every car should have to qualify each week, and if they can't they don't race. No more past champions provisionals for has-beens, no more top 35, no more point-selling in the off season, it should all be dirt-track style.
How does parking the car for everything except the first lap of the race provide a 'full field'? How is that not a farce or an illusion of a full race field? I thought racing was driving the car around the track, not sitting on your fanny watching, (or packing up to go home)! What other sport considers it respectable to sign up, begin, and then QUIT?
EXACTLY.
