I was a HUGE fan of his team/teams/drivers....you know...... and when he was getting out of the sport due to the rising costs and was doing an interview of such I felt the carpet moving under my feet. I wondered how a man in the sport so long could have been over ran and fallen behind the times. However he was not alone and I knew better than that..... that there always comes a day for most when for whatever reasons the winds stop blowing you down your path but rather around you and fill the sails of newer and fresher ideas and shapings. For whatever the reasons are a man like Joe Gibbs can transcend the heritage and history of The Wood Brothers, Richard Petty Racing.................Donlavey....... and carry on forward. The sport has many signposts along the way and another one now hangs flowers......This man along with guys like Rick Mast and Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte and Tim Richmond made me want to fill an ash tray with gear lube while I watched a race and let its unmistakable flavor fill the air your nose and your clothes........now you got (forget that)......and Ricky Rudd as well.........Rest in Peace.............the race is over.

Sad to hear.

RIP Mr. Donlavey, remember your go get'm style-memories are made of this.....
