Yep,pretty standard for the NationWide and Truck series.

Remember, think how many seats are there, so of course it looks empty.

True. The place seats 400,000+. Even with 50,000 people in the stands IMS looks like a ghost town.

Actually, Indy has a seating capacity of 257,000.

This place has never been a track that stock cars were great to watch at. They shouldn't have moved yesterdays race from Lucas Oil Raceway. I am sure many, many people stayed home that were regulars in years past to protest. They took away a race from one of the most exciting tracks in the country and moved it to the most boring track around.

Todays race will draw many more fans, but the stands will still look empty. The race will probably not be worth watching and I will listen to it on my iPhone as I wash my cars. Then maybe brew a batch of beer.

I agree. The IRP short track was a better venue.

beer brewer? how advanced? we may need to talk!

In 2001 when NASCAR really took off, I wondered if its own success would be its downfall. Of course, NASCAR is nowhere near dead or on life-support, its still huge, but the ratings and empty seats tell us somethings is changing.

I have a few opinions, some may be right, some not:
1. The economy
2. The gimmicks. The Chase, Lucky Dogs, phantom cautions etc. Each by themselves is not a big deal, but as you combine more and more gimmicks, the viewer starts to get t he feeling that they are moving towards the direction of WWF.
3. Manufactured driver drama. (This idea goes along with #2, but I thought it was important enough for its own number) To me, it seems like they are forcing drama. A great example is Danica. Danica is by no means a horrible driver, however, she isnt a great driver. Nothing is more annoying then hearing Darrel and Michael talk about how great shes doing, while 3 laps down. Thats asinine and thats exactly what NASCAR is about now. I could think of hundred of similar examples, thats just the one that is in my mind today (see her accident at MIS this morning)
4. The internet. In my opinion, the internet is destroying many thing, including our govt. Let me give you an example; Journalism has moved past actual unbiased reporting and moved into the realm of opinions. Thats fine, but much like politics, anybody can give an opinion. That person may be at home, angry and drunk, he may not know what he/shes talking about, or he may just want to get readers anger up also. What this does is make us think NASCAR (or our govt) was better in the past. Ive repeatedly hear people say racing was better in the past.. thats utter BS. I often refer people to the 1998 Daytona 500. Think back, you may remember that as one of the best races of all time, on the contrary, until the last few laps, that was the most boring race of all time due to a lack of passing. In fact, the entire season was like that, but, nobody complained because that was NASCAR racing. Now, fast forward to 2012, we complain that Bristol doesnt have enough wrecks and cautions. The racing was great, but we are MAD and consider it a bad race. The real die hards love the racing, but the johnny come latelys tell us it sucked, then the country listens.

The thing I miss most and I suppose lands me in lap of the majority is the tracks that are no longer part of the year. For me it all boils down to car proximity. Even with a runaway leader or two or three cars there was "racing" going on in the field. Nothing more note worthy than the "ROCK" then this whole IRP my jaw dropped as the spin was on last year when it was announced and someone said "It's just that the NATIONWIDE SERIES HAS OUT GROWN THIS PLACE" ......the clouds of time are thick and hard for me to see through but I think it was Ol' DW drivel himself.

The Olympics suck, look at all the empty seats in the stands.

Anything w/GB kicks butt on attendance. But who care's. Isn't this about ROBBY ?
