Johnny Benson is in a tough situation with his Camping World Series truck team. He has a sponsor lined up, and Nascar has approved it. The problem is the TV Networks have informed the team they would avoid his team for TV time, including Speed TV. The sponsorship is a gun manufacturer and doesn't violate Nascar's approved sponsorship guidelines, but TV Networks feel they would need to avoid promoting the sponsor to avoid any issues. Benson doesn't feel it would be fair for the sponsor to be sold on exposure through the series and be avoided by television networks.

The economy is making it harder to land sponsorship and Nascar has already turned down several proposed sponsorship packages. Playboy magazine, Penthouse magazine, Trojan condoms, AT&T wireless, Verizon, and Nokia already have been rejected in the last 12 months. AT&T wireless left the sport after Sprint forced them out. Verzion colors are on the Penske #12, but no logos are allowed and the car is referred at the Penske #12. Nokia is a wireless phone manufacturer and voilates the telecom exclusiveness Sprint has. Nascar wasn't ready to allow adult companies like Playboy, Penthouse or Trojan.

Robby had to remove Motorola from his car the year before last when Nascar rejected it's paint scheme, but accepted Motorola's Media Player instead.

Oh good grief! Good thing we didn't have guns back in 1776 so we could fight for our rights to....wait a minute! Good thing we didn't have guns in 1941...oh no...wait a minute. Yeah, let's just pretend guns don't exsist. That will solve all the world's problems. Goes right along with the president trying to uninvent nukes. Yeah, that'll work!

I'll say no more regarding this issue.
Didn't Kerry Earnhardt run a Smith & Wesson scheme a few years back? I never understood why Nascar (Sprint) rejected RG's Motorola sponsorship. Motorola does not offer cell phone service, and I believe has no desire to do so. I have had a couple of Motorola Sprint phones (although I have a palm now) and really enjoyed them. So what's Sprints beef? Does Motorola have an exclusive deal with one of the other carriers?

I understand that Nascar is a family orientated sport, and has the right to deny certain sponsorship, but in these tough economic times any money coming in is good money. Penthouse and Playboy I get, but trojan? Nascar doesn't believe in safe sex and planned parenthood? But when Martin ran the Viagra car that's ok? Didn't somebody drive the "Smilin Bob" car (can't remember the product name but it's supposed to offer "natural male enhancement", which is suggestive of a euphemism for penile enlargement). That's ok? Nascar needs to get less picky, and perhaps do away with some of the "official" products of Nascar so it doesn't make it impossible for other companies to get involved...
I think Kerry ran the #74 Smith & Wesson car in one race in 2003. In 2007 he ran the #63 Team Glock car in 1 race. In 2005 there was the #30 Smith & Wesson car in the Nationwide (then Busch) Series driven by 3 different drivers (Ron Hornaday Jr., Mike Bliss, & Scott Riggs).
I seen two Gun Broker.com trucks this year. WTF?
Yeah that's exactly what I was gonna say. How is that any different??/ THis is BS
So it was ok for Colt Firearms to sponsor LW Miller back in 1995? it's ok for GunBroker.com to sponsor a truck in the series a couple years back? It was ok for Commemorative Firearms to sponsor DJ Kennington in this year's Nationwide Race at Daytona? They show the winner of the Texas races with the 6-shooters. Do they not want Berreta to continue to sponsor the Pole Award at Texas? But Benson can't have a gun manufacturer on his truck?
Something is wrong with that. Especially since it's been done in the past and as recently as this year at Daytona.
my response was in regard to the TV deal. pointing out how often gun related sponsors have been shown on TV. Now back in 1995 the Colt sponsorship wouldn't have gotten air time per se, but GunBroker.com sure as heck has gotten air time the past couple of years. That's what's so wrong about it. It's like TV people are changing the rules in the middle of the game.
OK, so that begs the question.........Who did Johnny Benson piss off at SPEED TV????
Well he used to be a SPEED commentator, but now does NASCAR Live on ESPN...
Ya know. I am seriously getting fed up with all this polictally correct horse shit that gets fed to us thru tv networks and of course our congress! Our country was built on freedom, to include free speech and the ability to bear arms. Every time I turn around I hear of another ..."Can't say this or call it that" "or "you can't do this or can't to that" because it might offend someone. I say F&*$k it if someone gets offended.

sorry for my rant here... I'm just getting tired of hearing about stuff like this... it's right up there with not allowing people to sell motorcycles becuase a kid might lick the gearbox....
And Speed TV is trying to be politically correct? With that "Livin the Low Life" show. The girl's half naked, hot as hell though. They show the Gun Broker.Com trucks all of the time. Benson must've screwed someone over at Speed, cause this is just wrong.
We, Robby fans are use-to our driver being shun'd by the networks.
Johnny should absolutely put the gun manufacturer on the truck.
But all advertising partners have to be approved by Na$crap first.

Speed would have no choice but to cover JB in victory lane!
