STAGE 4: NAZCA > AREQUIPA

Connection 429km | Special Stage 288km | Total 707km

COURSE OVERVIEW

It was a painful experience for many competitors when they discovered the area last year. At the beginning of the special stage, the dunes follow one another, each one like the next, strung out in a never-ending desert capable of unsettling the best technical specialists. In the opposite direction, Stéphane Peterhansel and “Nani” Roma, both of whom are masters when it comes to crossing dunes, each lost almost fifteen minutes there, and risked missing out on the first two places of the overall standings. And the level of difficulty will be even more demanding this year! During the crucial stage of the first week, the rally will be even tougher for motorcyclists: they will quail on a 2-km slope, of which the gradient will put the descent of Iquique on a par with a gentle children’s slide.

Hey TOG, are those right coast times?

Or Left coast

in theory EST -

Big Bang.

there is a VERY LONG connection route after the special section of Stage 4. These are EST times, and you left coasters will have to get up at 4:33am to check out the start :)

I do know one thing....... if you have a steering wheel in your hands and even more so a set of handle bars this stage looks to be the stick you use to check "your set". Hat's off to all the drivers and riders and still for the life of me I can't under..............oh yes I can. Side bar (Hey pussy turn off family guy we're over here).. sleep tight all through the night tommorow will be one hell of a fight!

Hey easy Americans RG is my man I was just a little dissapointed that with all the hype and long travel suspension the hummer looked more like a an Escalade on the first three stages I know RG is fast but maybe in order to have a better chance next year he should buy one of our SOUTH AFRICAN TOYOTA HILUX DAKAR EDITION BAKKIES that way he will have the reliabilty and speed to back up the mouth, just saying its my humble yet always correct opinion no need to call out the marines I just love watching my man GDV kicking some american long travel butt

De Villers didn't kick any butt today. What did he finish 15th? At the end we will see who has the last laugh. Welcome to the site and enjoy.

Thanks, I know stupid dutchman got lost, glad to see you guys have a sense of humour RG is my sons hero his room is a shrine to him, so good luck love your guys passion and cant wait to see more of RG

No worries Bruce.... most of us here have said very nice things about the 'yoda....and nobody here really dogs GDV....

We'd all likely fight crazy for RG if he was in a peddle car (or a yoda for that matter).....but he's not. He's in a Bad Ass Mo Fo of his own creation. He's a rebel with a cause.....he lives and dies by his own drum beat.

OK....so he ran his mouth a little.... big deal. You gotta love the size of the fight in that dog.

Slow night (early morning for you) at Planet Giniel? Does DeVilliers have a fan site for US to smack talk at?

Probably not. None of his "fans" would donate a south african Rand to watch/follow him.
