Good Afternoon Planeteers.

I am heading to California to interview with a company located outside of LA.

I'm pretty sure I'll accept their offer and start the process of moving my East Coast tail westwards.

So, being a life long East Coaster and never having been to LA I was hoping some of you SoCal Planeteers could give me some suggestions.

Where do I want to live? Looking at spending about $750/mo. for rent and I'd like to be able to work on my cars if possible where I am renting
What should I look out for?
Any other random words of advice?

Pretty stoked that I'll be able to enjoy the first season of SST in 2013, that I'll be able to drive some legendary race tracks like Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs, visit some great surf breaks, and also RG's Offroad Shop is in Anaheim.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a So-Cal person but I had a buddy that lived in Redondo beach for a while. This is one of my all time favorite places to eat/hang:

The food, esp. the pizza, is delicious!

An Irish Bar serving good pizza...yep, it's true, California is a weird weird place

Also heard good things about Pitfire Kitchen in Marina Del Rey.

I'll be staying in Marina Del Rey the first two weeks I am there and yes, I know, I am going to be spoiled

The good thing is youll be near the heart of the In n Out empire. You have arrived sir... you have arrived

I've heard rumbles and rumors of these mystical places but only on the wind and it was more my nose that caught the rumors rather than my ears for it was the smell, the smell I tell you.

For decades I walked in the wilderness. At first there was Hardees (Carl Jr's) but they were so few and far between that it was like stumbling upon Shangri La.

Then came Sonic with its faux tribute to the drive in, still, they were no more numerous than Hardees so it was but a rare time that I'd Sonic.

But lo, lo dear sir there was Five Guys.

Five Guys burgers, first arising in Norther Virginia with its simple double or single with customized orders and real meat frying on real grills...and the fries, let me tell you those fries were good. Oh yes sir, they were good and there were many.

And NOW, NOW I come to the gates of the In and Out Empire and gaze upon it with watering taste buds, anticipation licking the air and the errant drip of ketchup and mustard from my fingers.

I will arrive and soon, very very soon, I shall sup.
