Chase will go to top 10, plus 2 biggest winners: Twelve NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will make the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2011 -- the top 10 in points and the two drivers not in the top 10 who have the most race victories in NASCAR's 26-race regular season. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France goes is expected to confirm that arrangement, along with a points system that gives 43 points to race winners and then one-point increments down to just one point for the last-place finisher. Each driver who leads a lap will get one bonus point, and regular-season race winners are expected to get two or three Chase bonus points for each victory. There will be no knockout rounds in the Chase, as NASCAR had hinted at earlier.(SPEED)(1-26-2011

So does this mean that you could be in the chase; if you do not run a full season but win enough of the races that you run to be one of the top two race winners...? If so RG has a shot at the chase!
nope...you have to be in the top 20 in points to qualify for the wildcard.
Yeah so if RG wins two Road Course events... There would be a great chance he gets in. Plus cheating wouldn't be such a big deal cuz they don't take wins away...LOL

But wait. If RG cheated and won they would take it away... Scratch that.
last year it would have been Jamie McMurrey in the chase...
Technically If you get a single win early in the season it would be a good call for another team to make sure you got that second win... Two wins is almost a lock in the chase.
Have to be in the top 20 also. So two wins but not top 20 doesn't do it.
I didn't see that.
Jamie Mac deserved it...hottest driver of 2010 was Jamie...just not consistent enough. This will change the strategy of alot of teams. Teams withe drivers better suited for plate tracks, road courses, or short tracks will put alot more resources and money into those events. I can see RGM really going a little extra on the road courses and plate tracks. Maybe all the wind tunnel testing will pay off. (I know it's crazy talk) but imagine if Robby Gordon made The Chase with 2 or 3 wins... you would see an ammended new rule in 2012.

I'm telling you...the new Chase Rule and Point rule...favors RG this year, and will kill S&P teams. Robby could stay in the Top 35 racing only 15-20 races if he had decent finishes.

Take a team like Joe Nemechek, if he S&P and only scores a few points like 1-10 each race...another team with only one solid finish could leap them!

WOW! Talk about having the stars line up for you. Robby couldn't have picked a better time to scale back on his Nascar schedule. I have a feeling you will definitely see some audibles called this year!
Sure he could stay in the top 35 BUT if you miss even one race it doesn't matter if you are in the Top 35 because you have to attempt each race. I am a big fan of this new system
Great Changes, & subtle!!
How does Jamie deserve it if he wasn't consistent? That's the whole name of the game isn't it? - Finish up front every week. Not win 3 races and run mid pack for the remainder.

I think the whole "chase thing" sucks. Brian France is a goof and NASCAR has been a yawn fest since he's been at the helm. i.e. - empty seats, start time changes, major drop in tv ratings (steadily down hill since 2003), sponsors re-thinking marketing strategies and pissed off original fans. France has been trying hard to get "new fans" by turning NASCAR into Football, Hockey, Basketball, and Baseball with "Drama". What is this? Reality TV? NASCAR is NASCAR. It was NEVER broke, so why does he keep trying to fix it? He has done nothing but f*uck it up IMO. No, I did not get kicked in the nuts this morning. I just cannot stand Brian "fat ass" France and his NASCAR bootlicking coat tailers. The same points system has been in place for 35 years, but all of a sudden "Brian" wants to change it. Too many changes too often is the reason fans aren't following the races as much. To date: Biggest bone head move - "The Car of Tomorrow". How did that work out for you Brian?.......And, if Robby is indeed only running 17-20 races, points won't mean a thing to RGM.
he won the 2 biggest races of the year.....he deserved it far more than several of the guys that made it last year.

The car of tomorrow is a much safer car and I for one think it's ridiculous that manly race fans care more about how a car looks than the technology behind it. That's just lame. The COT is great and the racing has been better with it, particularly once they added the spoiler.
