You all familiar with sites such as "Kick Starter" and "Go Fund Me?" We should start a grassroots campaign. I would describe/show a basic description of what kind of live braodcast/show we want to produce for the Baja 1000. Then a few questions to those we reach. Would you pay to watch? Would you commit to pay so much to be a part of the development of this?

We do this and then present the results to SCORE. I'm not thinking to cut them out of anything. They still own all the rights etc. The Kick Start campaign would be a grassroots way for them to fund the transformation of the live broadcast. The campaign would show them that $100,000, or close to whatever it takes, is available from committed race fans from around the globe.

I'm brainstorming here - as if you can't tell. What do you all think? Something has to transform SCORE. Understand that I'm not into dethroning them at all. I'm into helping them.

I don't know....it's like putting dry cat food in a drunks nuts.............will it work? who would enjoy it? who would do it? I mean who would think of it first would be the boss..or the one to blame.....I don't know Oliver street in Tonawanda N.Y. has a bar that has beer and corn flakes on the menu...........order it and you'll get it......

@Hendricus,sorry ,I've read you're posts. There's things Roger can do to improve the spectator experience,BUT.Honestly,I'm guessing Roger might be as heart broken as many and now might not be the time to rip him. I'm sure he knows 'things' didn't go as planned.Specator wise,he had track security issue's,if nothing else BJ hitting a spectator (my personal biggest fear ever)
I've spent my time since last night reflecting about friends lost. While I had not meet Kurt, there are Plant members who's have know/spoken to him,and are personal fans. TOG posted that Kurt spent the day ,Tuesday, with them (Robby's group). The group found out at the finish of his passing.

I'm with you Mike that noes not the time. I think the vast, desolat desert is a ginormous undertaking foe everything from security to video. I'm heartbroken for Kurts family and I never met the man. R.I.P. Kurt

Thanks Mike. I can definitely realign to what is truly more important. The thought/chat direction I've posted can wait. As someone said, today is not the day. My thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved Kurt. As the Holy Scriptures affirm, there is a time to morn.

And to you specifically Mike, thanks for hosting the chat for the race.

SCORE International, the desert-racing sanctioning body of the SCORE Baja 1000, issued a statement regarding the death of FMF/Bonanza Plumbing KTM Team rider Kurt Caselli.

The release stated that Caselli died of serious trauma that incurred “when he apparently lost control of his KTM motorcycle in a sandy, high-speed section at approximate race-mile 792 while his team was leading in the late stages of the 883.1-mile international desert race.”

The release also said that the accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. local time Friday and made no mention of any kind of man-made “booby trap” that Caselli may have encountered, which might have caused the accident. There have only been rumors to that effect but no confirmation.

“Our desert racing family has lost a very special person in Kurt,” said SCORE President Roger Norman. “Kurt was a superb racer and this is a tragedy that affects us all. We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Caselli family. Their loss is immeasurable and we grieve with them.”

Caselli and his factory-backed KTM racing team won last year’s SCORE San Felipe 250 and finished second and third in the other two SCORE Baja races this season.

Looks like it wasn't a boobie trap here's an official statement from KTM . According to this he hit an animal .
Kurt, part of the Factory FMF/Bonanza Plumbing/KTM team competing in this desert race, was in a leading position when he suffered a crash that resulted in severe head trauma. He died of his injuries in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
The team, who have now recovered Kurt's bike discovered traces on the machine that indicate he had collided with some small animal, which apparently caused the crash.
Kurt, 30, was an accomplished American offroad and desert rider but he had also made a successful transition to international rallies for the KTM Factory Team. He was admired and respected in racing circles for his skill, natural talent and exemplary sportsmanship far beyond the borders of his home country. While Kurt was one of the most popular figures on the KTM team, he was also an unmatched role model for young riders and fans.
No amount of blame is gonna bring Kurt back . Bottom line we should all mourn , pray , and thank God for our family and friends . For those who got to spend those final moments with Kurt , the best tribute to him will be to remember those times and always cherish them .
:~)
They don't Really wear any protection like neck brace, broke his neck

WTF? Was that on the course?

So watching the video it looks like the car has already been smashed when Robby passes by it. Was this how they deal with removing booby traps?
