TGR Dakar 2023 - Stage 5 Highlights

Stage 5 T3 UTV- Good day for Seth and Austin, not for Mitch

After having met with misfortune and lost almost 1 hour 20 minutes in the fight for the title yesterday, Seth Quintero has taken out a serious option on stage victory today. Already at the finishing line, the American has beaten “Chaleco” López by almost 5’. He will now have to await the arrival of Ignacio Casale, who was second at the previous time check point, to discover the outcome of this special in the T3 category.

Mitch Guthrie, who took the lead in the general rankings yesterday, has suffered mechanical problems after 165 km. The American, who is awaiting his assistance truck, had the fifth best time after 140 km and will suffer big losses in the fight for the title.

DAKAR Rally 2023 - Stage 5 - Summary

Thanks Mike for adding all these links!

Yes, the links are greatly appreciated. It has been an interesting Dakar. We will see what happens next due to the weather.
I can't imagine being a privateer in the Dakar.

Thanks Barb, I've been enjoying this years DAKAR. I notice Max likes a ton of DAKAR posts on Instagram. Maybe RG and Max will go back 2025, with Max as co-dawg.

That would make for a fun/interesting Dakar as well. Let's see how many make it to the end of this one. So many have had issues.

January 5 th 2023 - 20:30 [GMT + 3]

. With the rain on the last few days having flooded the site planned for installation of the Al Duwadimi bivouac, it will not be possible to welcome the Dakar caravan on the site initially planned. The sporting programmes for stages 6 and 7 have therefore been modified accordingly by the Dakar organisers.

. For January 6th, stage 6 will take place on the initially planned special, but over a distance reduced by approximately 100 kilometres. The riders, drivers and crews will then take a link route (of approximately 300 kilometres) to the bivouac in Riyadh.

. The next day, on January 7th, the competitors will contest the stage on the route of the special initially scheduled for stage 8 (Al Duwadimi > Riyadh). On completion of this special, if the weather conditions are favourable, the caravan will then journey to the bivouac in Al Duwadimi.

. For January 8th, arrangements will be made depending on how the weather evolves.
