STAGE 8 TRACKING

STAGE 8: Copiapo > Antofagasto

Connection 245km | Special Stage 477km | Total 722km

COURSE OVERVIEW

At this stage of the competition, the number of contenders for the title will be reduced to a small handful in each category. But despite the significant number of kilometres to be covered, this first stage after the rest day should not be relied on to create decisive gaps. The rally's longest special stage will be used to allow the competitors to get back into the pace of the competition. On the stone-covered tracks which will lead to Antofagasta, the pace will be rather intense, but this will not prevent the drivers from catching sight of some magnificent views.

With the Hummers leading the way and Nasser setting the pace, I hope it will stay together under him and robby can use it to pick up some good time on the overall leaders. Gas on

I think Rob needs to start the push. Can't wait for Phansel to make a mistake or get a flat.

I agree. With them out front and the track today(tomorrow) it could end up being a very Hummer day

sorry to say this looks like a good stage for the mini's no sand

that why it important to make up some time and then they know it is on like Donkey Kong

If you look ahead to stages 9 and 10 you'll see that those stages suit the Hummers. Tomorrows special is all about maintaining their times against the minis and not making mistakes. If RG can gain time on Peterhansel then all the better...

That What I am thinkin if he can make up some time tomorrow all the better

i just want to see stage 9 RG and nasser going down that Giant iquique dune

+1

The following post(at the very bottom) was just put on NASCAR facebook site. Go and reply if u like. repost on all sites. Lets let them know what we think. NASCAR has a problem, in my opinion.
Robby is a great racer as well as a fans racer.
I want to share a story about Robby and why I like him as a racer and a person.
I was sitting in the pits at INDY practice years ago, my young kids with me. Robby was shaking down his car, he would come in and go over data while on top of the pit box. My boys went up to the fence and stood there.
Robby noticed them but he had work to do. An hr or so later as the crowd gathered they waited. As Robby finished he steped down from the pit box and walked toward the fence. Everyone swarmed and pushed pens, pictures and other stuff to be signed by him.
He pushed past walked up to my young boys, signing their die cast car before going to anyone else.
Respect. that is Robby. I have since gotten other autographs from him and he is always greatfull

The Following is what I posted on NASCAR Facebook

Why is it NASCAR has no posts of Robby Gordon and his Dakar run? If jr, jimmy, jeff were running it would be front page news. What gives? Is he not part of the NASCAR family(you do tout that NASCAR has strong family values)? Last I checked he is a owner/driver and past winner.
So why does he not get his fair due? KB get alot of attention while being an idot and Robby gets none while on a possible winning run in the most enduring race known to man or woman.

Almost every year in the past Nascar.com has posted articles on Robby while in the Dakar. Wait until he wins a stage, I'm sure they will post something then.

I'm not defending them.. just stating what i've observed in the past. Also remember they are ..a nascar site, not an offroad site. With this being the offseason, there is normally not much Nascar related stuff to write about which is why Robby usually makes it on there with Dakar news. This year there is acatually more Nascar related news for them to report about with Bush being fired and redbull closing and the whole who might be going where scenerio.

Dont get me wrong I am not bashing them. But you know as well as I they want as much exposure as possible to their sport. That is why the would put stuff there in the past. But RG is not the top player and that is the problem in NASCAR today. Wait till next month when all the other big names enter into 24 at Daytona. I guarantee they will report it.
I would think with all the empty seats and the events that the attendance is down(all events)they would want all the exposure(good exposure) they could get.

FYI: long time fan of NASCAR back to the early days of Earnhardt Sr(when he was a rookie)
