Very Very Nice! I like them a lot!
Cool !speed energy is the best!
They look cool and I notice that you are building them off other teams' cars. How do you get the decals off the base cars and secondly, how do you make your RGM decals?
To be honest, first you take the whole care apart. Action cars are pretty simple and come apart relatively easy. You do have to be careful with the windows and hood pins etc. They can easily break.
Second, you can either sand or strip the produced cars. I just sand them, prime them, and then spray them with about 3 coats of automotive grade PPG paint.
There are several companies that make diecast decals. Pattos Place is one and SMH Racing is two. They are either waterslide or peal and stick. You lay them on and clear coat the whole thing after you're done.
Anyone that has done this knows how time consuming it is, but if you're a fan, it's neat to have something that very few people have.
Thanks Chase. It is good info and I have to try it.
Another way to get the decals (and paint) off the donor cars is to use a paint stripper. When I made a 1/64th custom of Robby's Jim Beam/Original Roadhouse Grill car that he ran at Fontana, I used a paint stripper that comes in a spray can. Just cover the car with the spray, let it sit for however long the can says, then wipe away the paint/decals. It may take a couple of applications...especially to get the paint out of any grooves, but it is quicker than sanding. Some people swear by the automotive grade paints like PPG, but if you can match the color from a spray can from Walmart or Home Depot, they look just as good. The best decals, imho, are the waterslide decals. Pattos Place is good as is hocustom.com (for 1/64th). For clearcoating, I use Pledge Floor Polish with Future Shine and the results are beautiful.
You've got skills! Great job!
YOU SHOULD NOT USE MICHALE WALTRIP CARS ANYBODY BUT HIM.WHY NOT USE ROBBY GORDON CARS?
why sand down a perfectly good #7 car to make another #7 car? This way you can take a worthless POS car and sand it down and transform it into something lovely ;-)
Also, because they are the cheapest 2010 action models available with the spoiler. It's a win/lose scenario. I get to distroy a MW car but I also have to support him by buying the cars.
better yet, wait for the 2011 SPEED Energy 1/24 diecasts direct from RGM!
really nice work :D
