Moto: It’s all over for Howes
Skyler Howes came off his bike on the day’s special. The Husqvarna rider hit his head and does not remember anything about his fall, but nevertheless managed to make it to the finishing line. He started feeling unwell immediately after arriving and with ankle and shoulder injuries as well, Howes was taken to hospital by the organisation teams to undergo further examinations. In any event, the American will have to skip the rest of the 44th edition of the Dakar. It is a big blow for Howes, who finished fifth last year and was in eighth place at the beginning of the day’s stage, as well as being the best place Husqvarna rider.

Moto: Tough times for Barreda
Yesterday’s winner Joan Barreda also fell from his bike between the 265 and 270 km marks, injuring his shoulder. He is allowing himself until tomorrow morning before deciding whether to carry on with the adventure or not. If “Bang Bang” is forced to withdraw, it will be his sixth premature exit in 12 participations (1 out of 2). In 2021, he had to drop out following a fuel shortage on the penultimate special.

Car: Stage 6: the same again… but different…
For the sixth stage before the rest day, the bikes and quads will today tackle the 421-km route covered by the cars and trucks yesterday, which is a blessing for the riders who will, for once, be able to use the tracks left by the four-wheelers that will not have disappeared during the night. They will have to deal with quick, slow and also rocky portions. They will also have to take on dunes that will at times prove difficult to negotiate. For their colleagues on four wheels (except for the quads, of course), it will be a quicker stage, though they will have to be careful in the section of canyons where punctures will be a constant menace.

Stage 6
Moto: Sanders still leads
After 81 km, Sanders is holding onto his lead, 1’26 in front of Walkner (KTM), 1’47 ahead of his team-mate Sunderland, 2’08 in front of Brabec (Honda), 2’26 ahead of Quintanilla (Honda) and 2’59 in front of Klein (BAS Dakar KTM). The gaps are fairly small, because the top 15, rounded off by the Shercos of Gonçalves and Santolino, are all within the same 5 minutes.

Car: Terranova reacquaints himself with victory
Orlando Terranova has tasted victory on the day’s special. Among the most experienced drivers on the Dakar, the Argentinean has triumphed again on the rally for the first since 2015.
Car: Audi and Toyota also on the podium
After Stéphane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz, Mattias Ekstrom is the third of the Audi Sport clan’s representatives to climb onto the stage podium this year. The Swede has finished one minute behind the Prodrive driven by Orlando Terranova, a team-mate of Sébastien Loeb and Nani Roma with BRX. Yazeed Al Rajhi, who stopped to help Yasir Seaidan yesterday following an accident, has finished on the third step of the podium.

LW Proto: Number six for Quintero!
After his fifth victory yesterday, Seth Quintero was clear about his intentions of beating the record for the largest number of stage wins on a single and same Dakar. Today, the American sustained his momentum by winning the day’s special.

SSV: Marek Goczał wins his third stage of the year
Victory belongs to Marek Goczał today, having held steady until the finishing line on the special. The Pole has finished more than three minutes ahead of Rodrigo Luppi De Oliveira. However, the Brazilian is still on top of the general rankings, with a lead of 6 minutes over Austin Jones and 28 minutes over Michał Goczał, Marek’s brother.

I'm glad to see Barreda started. I do hope he makes it to the end this year. Oh, I see there are issues with the track and the bike and quad special has been halted. That'll give him more time to heal.
