STAGE 1 TRACKING

STAGE 1: ROSARIO > VILLA CARLOS PAZ

Connection 404km | Special Stage 258km | Total 662km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Argentina is a country of mountains, in all forms. Although the first stage is not yet at altitude, the summits are well and truly visible. The wheels of the vehicles follow sinewy and undulating tracks, with the exception of the first, faster, part of the special section. A partial separation of the categories will ensure dangerous overtaking is avoided.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

That is so awesome! Robbie is the man!

Short interview with Robby about cancelation. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1064588596905394&id...
I think the interviewer pissed RG off by saying he had problems yesterday

I am not certain what the terrain is like for today's special but I am sure flash floods were a concern. What if one of the motorcycle riders was lost at one of the "stream" crossings and without medical helicopters it would be bad.

From Honda HRC

After yesterday’s sweltering 40 degrees in Rosario, today nature whipped up a lighting storm bad enough that race organisers were forced to cancel the first stage citing safety concerns. Riders thus head straight towards the bivouac situated in Villa Carlos Paz.

Today there was no action on the track. The ASO, the organizers of the Dakar 2016, decided to call off completely the whole of the first stage after worries about rider safety. Thunder, lightning and a heavy downpour swelled various rivers and meant that the helicopters that monitor and deal with emergences had to stay grounded. Dakar director Etienne Lavigne was given no choice but to annul the first special stage of the rally.

The overall leaderboard, as a consequence, remains unchanged from yesterday’s prologue stage.

Hands up. Who like my Profile picture?
