I don't speak/read French, but someone who posts on advrider gave an overview of what he saw on those forums.

Oh.... also........... who doesn't love a little American Muscle... the chills... can't wait for the streets to dry here with gas prices so low... everyone will be taking their hot rods out for a spin.

You know all those people have dirt in their underwear after that little exhibition of skills. haha!
I think he kisses her head, make it better, as his elbow knocked her when they were moving him over.
I can't quite understand their hands on his cheeks I've seen, when he gets near someone for a pic.
I have seen some call him Saint Robby.

That's actually an interesting question. I've scoured the amateur video for dakar footage for a few years so I actually do have some observations about how the crowd responds to other cars.

The mini's are super boring. Obviously they are great vehicles for the Dakar, there's no arguing that.Occasionally you hear someone saying "Mini" as those cars approach. There is a little energy in cheering because they know the Mini's are often front runners, but actually not much energy. I actually tried to make a video for the minis last year, but very quickly I realized how truly boring it was.

It's fun to make the Robby Gordon compilations because the crowds explode with excitement when he goes by. Every time I re-watch them I pick up on the energy of the crowds and laugh. And Robby does his best to give them something cheer for. I think the sounds of the engines actually make a difference. Again, minis are boring in that aspect.

I noticed there was more background cheering for the Toyotas this year, probably because those vehicles also look and sound awesome.

Whatever the actual reasons are, Robby is definitely the fan favorite in South America (and apparently he is the antichrist in french forums that follow the Dakar).

To sum up: No, there is no comparable footage of fan excitement for the other racers. There is some enthusiam, but it is clearly a notch down from the energy that goes through the crowd when Robby drives by.

Nice job Mike! Thanks for making that!

The crowd surfing one cracks me up every time. It's just crazy to me. And then, Robby kisses the little girl at the end. He is as excited as the fans. It's a random moment that's for sure! Plus, he finished 19th. His fans could not care less. Tell me of another racer or athlete that get's such spotlight for finishing so far back?

I think you could make a Saturday Night Live skit of RG at the Dakar.

I wonder..., let's say you wanted to create something similar for Nasser. Are there just as many fan uploaded videos out there? I'm not saying you should do this, I'm just wondering what you saw as you were collecting the RG footage.
