BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Jan. 17, 2015) – Robby Gordon saved his best for last in the 37th Dakar Rally, earning his 10th career stage victory in Saturday’s final race in Buenos Aires.

Gordon dominated Saturday’s event - the shortest stage of the Rally - proving the speed and reliability of the Traxxas/Toyo Tires Gordini that the team knew existed. He and navigator Johnny Campbell crossed the finish line with a time of 13 minutes and 16 seconds, 25 seconds faster than second-place finisher Leeroy Poulter of South Africa. Emiliano Spataro of Argentina finished third, 29 seconds behind Gordon.

The win marks Gordon’s first victory in his HST Gordini – the custom car he developed and manufactured in 2013 specifically for the Dakar Rally. Gordon’s 10 career stage victories make him the most accomplished American driver in the history of the race. His first career stage win in 2005 marked the first time an American driver earned a victory in the world’s most enduring rally race.

Gordon’s overall Dakar Rally time of 48 hours, 20 minutes and 5 seconds was good for 19th place. Only 67 of the original 137 cars that started the Rally on Jan. 4 finished the race. He completed the 2015 Rally with five top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish in the opening stage and a third-place finish in Stage 5.

Mechanical issues during the second and fourth stages placed the team more than five and a half hours down to leader Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar.

“Some of the things that bit us early in the race really put the mentality of the team behind, but one thing about our team is they don’t stop,” Gordon said. “They worked all night long every night and kept rebuilding the car.

“We learned to not give up and the most important thing is that we know our car is capable. We won the last stage of the Rally and ended the 2015 event on a positive note.”

Al-Attiyah won the overall Dakar Rally Championship with a combined time of 40 hours, 32 minutes and 25 seconds over the more than 9,000 kilometer, 13-day route.

Gordon will return to the United States to finalize preparations for his Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks inaugural international competition in Adelaide, Australia, Feb. 27-March 1 at the Clipsal 500.

The final stage of the Dakar Rally will be highlighting on the NBCSN recap show at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. Additional information, including a fan forum, can be viewed at www.planetrobby.com.

Correction on the TV listing.... Sunday at 6:00 AM ET..... according to my tv listings.

Brilliant stuff although I make it 7 top 10 finishes this year!! Let's give RG maximum credit!!
Not as Brilliant as others though and has to work at achieving parity with Carlos Souza, who has been very impressive this year as the other independent, finishing overall 8th

Not quite. The Petrobas Rally Team fielded cars for Sousa and Spinelli and receive factory support from Mitsubishi Motors.

Souza, nearly did not have a ride for this year but he was lucky to get that. What amazes me is the other classes you do not hear of. One Bike class, has the competitors being their mechanics as well, no team or anyone else can help them maintain the bikes They all have their own support Truck where they get the tools and parts from.

WOOOOOOOOOT!!

TOG, any chance at seeing any more Vimeo video updates?

So you can post them on race-dezert?

"The community here gets better and better every year; pretty much anything I want to know about regarding the Dakar, I can read and find out here. Pictures, videos, updates; everything located here. Amazing. Can't wait until next year!"

So I can watch them and enjoy them? Because I find them great? Didn't know there was so much animosity between the two sites, jeez

Thomas - As far as I'm concerned, there isn't. We (Planetrobby) collaborate with Klaus & Race-Dezert. They did a great job during Dakar, an exceptional job, but so did we. I just find your comment interesting, especially when a significant portion of content posted there (by you) originated from here (photos, etc) , or through our social platforms.

As to your question about the remaining stage videos, Yes! They are going to be shown this week. There is some great footage, and interviews, etc, that have yet to be shown and they will be uploaded this week. Thanks for asking.

I mean, I wasn't just referring to myself, with the RDZ comment; I was referring to everything everybody shares, regardless of where it comes from. I guess going forward on every photo and video that is posted, I can say something like "Below content from Planetrobby", if that works. Lots of great stuff is posted here, which I think more people should be aware of, so if crediting is the only issue, then I can address that.

And awesome to hear about the videos; every year they provide awesome insight into the team and what the Dakar experience is like for RG and the guys, so I'm for sure looking forward to whatever else is released. Thank you for the work you put into the site! I have a tab of the site open in my browser for the whole two weeks of the rally

Plus, anybody has access to the Vimeo videos(sometimes initially I've noticed they're not made sharable at first), so there's nothing wrong with posting the videos on other sites; they're still labeled as coming from Planetrobby. The more people that are able to see the videos, the better.
