STAGE 12: TERMAS DE RIO HONDO > ROSARIO

Connection 726km | Special Stage 298km | Total 1024km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Dakar will spend the night near the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, which regularly hosts the Argentine rounds of the GP and WTCC motorbike championships. But the Dakar’s competitors are set for a long cross-country journey, battling it out in this tension-packed penultimate day. A combative driver could still shake up the leaders’ positions even at this stage. And drivers who become too distracted could be caught by surprise by the surrounding vegetation!

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

You're the smartest person in the room... jeje

9th place today but a steady run and I'm really happy with what Robby and whole team have achieved on this Dakar. Sure I was hoping for some stage wins but overall the car has definitely got pace and completing a full rally will give loads of info to improve again for next year. So let's get this last stage done tomorrow and complete this marathon!!

From JC:

Hola everyone!
We just completed the special for today and we are half way thru a 1000k driving day,
The special was 300k, tight, up and down, twisty and slick.
Definately better suited to the 4wd guys.
We had a good run with only minor issues and RG drove well and as hard as possible on the hard slick surfaces. Some of the corners almost caught us off guard as slowing and scrubbing was with care.
Traction proved to be a big deal today. The Navigation was tricky in the aspect of communication where there were so many blind rises with S- turns and dangers on the other side of the rises.
The driver and navigator had to be on their marks or could have been race ending mistakes with the speeds we and others were carrying.
All in all a good day. Finished 2nd two wheel drive in the top ten by about a minute.
Now we are on a 500k liaison
Ugh! So long!!!but the Gordini is blasting the AC and it feels nice!
Hoping to get a good Argentina steak on the way in! Haven't had one yet and the Bivouac food is getting a bit monotonous.
Tomorrow is the last stage, the special will be the same as the 1st stage two weeks ago only backward.
The Speed Energy Gordini started off that one with a third place so hoping she holds tight for a final test victory!
Buenos noches amigo!

Nice!! Gas on for tomorrow. now, put a black tape on the LOW OIL PRESSURE warning and floor it. God bless both!!

Some input on today's stage, from Vanagas, he of the broken wrist ( after being up to 5th place at WP2) :

" Stage 12 - 4h 51min and 11sec. As of now, we finished in 46h place. That puts as at 23st in the standings.
Very difficult stage. According to the journalists, after finishing, participants were coursing the road book. Some of the cars got wrecked. We had a dynamic start. After about a hundred kilometers, I hit a rock and got a flat tire, that couldn‘t give us support on the next corner and we ended up in a ditch. It costed us a lot of time and effort to get the car out of there. We broke our windscreen, so we kicked it out and continued with ski googles on, so we could see the road. If that wouldn‘t be enough, we damaged some sensor, so I had to keep the throttle at about 15%, otherwise the engine stopped working. Now five hundred kilometers to the bivouac, there mechanics will have plenty of work to do. We have to find ouf what‘s blocking the accelarator from working properly and to do some cosmetics on the car. Everything else seems fine, our mood is up. As ussual, my arm took a beating.

You know, Dakar ends once we cross the finish podium. One more day remaining! "

What time does he start tomorrow? yep, Lucas the motor and gas on!

I'll post start times in acouple hours, when I'm home from work

Looking forward to tomorrow's special, safe race, a finish get what you can get. Sending good energy to the Team.

How come Robby didn't have to change the lettering from SPEED to FUEL this year?

Tomorrow ill be at side of the road waiting for robby and other competitors like terranova, despress etc. Right now at 21.16 we have some heavy rain so i spect a bit of mud on the road. Hope to get some great images for you people. Bye from campana argentina
