2014 Vegas To Reno

Robby Gordon will run in the 2014 Vegas To Reno race on Friday, August 15. Qualifying is on Wednesday, August 13. Gordon will run the Gordini, and will have the opportunity to put many race miles on the truck prepping for the 2015 Dakar Rally. We will have raceday chat and full coverage.

After RM350 of 533, Robby Gordon is currently 11th in class (12th overall) +21m29s behind Jason Voss. #VegasToReno

It's been over an hour since The Other Guy's last 50 mile interval update ... from what I see, Robby is about 5 miles past PitStop 12 ... ~MP 393

Thanxs Jiggy! When Bryce passed Robby and got a 20 mile lead ... I had a hunch that it was much worse than merely a flat Toyo tire. Ooohhhh. the 2014 jinx continues ...

Yeah was hoping for a solid finish but a 400 mile test is still good. 2014 dnf's are okay if it means an Overall in January/Dakar

Thanks WJM for hosting chat today. Looked like 40 member's where able to participate most of the day,thank you.
Gear box,whatever drive train? That is what today was about.The fact Robby was down 50% HP wise to the 1400's and making time on most 14/1500's,what does that say about their program's?

I wonder how Robby thought the Gordini performed up until the point of the DNF? It appears from the outside looking in that it did a good job!!! Stoked on all the Dakar testing/coverage leading up to the big one.

Up until what problem was encountered it was a great run. What age, wear, condition and other factors involved in what specific part failed is only known to Robby and the team. Be it brand new, one from previous tests and what have you will all factor into the degree of disappointment that everyone directly involved will have to deal with. I was happy as shit to see Robby do the PR piece of sorts explaining what was going on with the truck and race......with the blooper left in....with the blooper left in. I say cheers and hell yaeh to the fact this is the earliest we have gotten information on the program and a good look at what we are sending down to the rally. I hope it only gets more ramped up as the time between this and the Sands show in September comes along in the fact that i'm damn interested in what's going on. As a fan feed me, and i'll try and spread it. chances are it will be pretty quiet. crandon perhaps. I don't know what I miss not being an upper class statesman around here but i'll say one thing you have have to beat the bushes pretty hard to find a more hardcore fan and the number one priority from my seat is exposure. Fan the flames any way you can I say, can't wait to see how this whole Dakar program, SST as well all progresses.

Guys what do you think the purpose of a test is ? The whole reason Robby ran the race was to find out the weak links and get them fixed BEFORE Dakar . Maybe instead of being so negative towards Robby you should look at the fact he's trying to win Dakar for America . Something that has never been done before , and he's doing without factory help on his dime only . Look at the Mini team , last yr they entered at least 10 cars , have TONS of factory help and still ain't as popular in the race as he is .

As you can see quite a few agreed w me . I really think Robby is WAY ahead of last yrs program and I think we're gonna see even more progress as we get closer to January . This could finally be the yr ! I mean even our Bills MADE IT to the Super Bowl so why not Robby winning Dakar lol .

While yesterday did not quite get us the "high" we were all rooting for, it was not a downer either. I could tell from reading RDC yesterday that we are not the only ones watching Robby. Yes, some people hate on him. What the heck, it comes with the territory. Overall, Robby has celebrity status. We all know what he's capable of. Overall, he's liked, respected, and watched. This is my opinion. I do not have "poling data" to back it up. Sorry.

A strong finish yesterday was just the thing Robby needed to interest more sponsor money for the fall and for Dakar. Never the less, he still has to sell the effort with the strength he did show.

Something about Robby's program is producing DNF's. I refuse to chock it up to "bad luck" only. I refuse to give "the victim" circumstance too much attention. Fine, to some degree we are all victims, but we still focus the other direction and say, "Let's improve!"

Please allow me one "Robby should" moment. I know Robby loves the endless streams of "Robby should" advice. You are welcomed, good buddy! Here it is. How about a dirt road rally car race this fall? Early fall too, not late. Could that me arranged? Robby does not need to win. He just needs to show strong. He does need to finish.

A couple of strong showings of the Gordini right now will attract the sponsors. The fan hype, or interest, will also build. The only thing that will hurt will be if the DNF's theme is strengthened. But Robby could also say that he is 100% committed to breaking the DNF curse BEFORE he arrives at Dakar.

Before you jump on me for speaking plainly about the DNF's, consider if you yourself were contemplating sponsoring Robby, would you not discuss such things in your inner circle?

To me, professional motorsports racing is as twitchy as it gets. You are the king only as long as you are winning. Listen to Ryan Villopoto talk about it.
