Jan 14th, 2013 Dakar Rally Stage 9 Race Info & Discussion

Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 9 of the 2013 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon recorded his 4th straight 3rd place finish in Stage 8, but remains 23rd overall. Gordon is still down over 5 hours in the overall, but will get yet another good starting spot in an attempt to win his first stage of the rally. The cars are slated to begin the special section of stage 9 at 8:03am/et and Robby Gordon will begin his special section around 8:09am/et.  Raceday chat will be available throughout the entire 2013 Dakar Rally.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Trucks will have pride of place when the rally resumes, only competing in one of the two parts of the special stage, but they will have the rare privilege of setting off first. The stage’s profile with quick tracks will be favourable to specialists of torturous routes. In the other categories, as the distance has been doubled it will also allow for an additional, much more technical section, where, in particular, the drivers will negotiate the bends in the forest. They will have to watch out for trees, given that the rapid assistance trucks won’t have access to the route. The competitors will have to be extremely vigilant over the entire distance, which is, for all except for the bikers, the rally’s longest special stage.

Nasser was one of the hopes to beat the spoiled golden boys from the Mini team - as the last years - the favourites from the organization of the rally.

Maybe last year he didn't behaved like a prince should (or any simple man). But he surely got the message, since he's running with Robby's ideas, and that gentleman, is the best praise there is.

What happened (Nasser's quiting) was only predictable. It's a fact that ilustrate how Robby and his team are determined and have the spirit of the race. I say this because last year, in a similar situation, Robby rescued and towed Nasser, playing the team game, at the cost of throwing away his own chances of winning.

A good race can teach.

Let's cheer for the best performances of the orange Hummer, you never know what can happen in the many miles ahead.

Don't like seeing Nastygasser quitting like the whinner he is, because the car he was driving was built, setup and tested right here in So Cal.

For a first year run, vehicle issues from the Bugglies are not unexpected. Will be intestesting to see if Al-Attiyah's are true vehicle, or due to the driver. Report of hitting a tree does'nt help reliability.

We all knew that this the big $$$ team, mini's wouild be tought to beat. But - the race still ain't over. Still like to see a stage win or 3 for Robby.

Somebody should ask Nasser what it feels like when your teammate quits early in the rally with a bad attitude and isn't there to help you in the late stages

It's a bit of a stretch to call a broken connecting rod "a bad attitude". Rules do not permit an engine change. You're talking about a competitor with a long history of excellence and many victories.

I would think Dakar is in his blood. You can't take away he is quick. Combine that with no limit in the funding department and I am quite certain alibaba will return.

The concept has proven very sound. To come in and compete with a factory works team like Mini and do that well for half of the event proves that, Bouncing off a tree is not a design defect, nor is a broken connecting rod on the team car. Both machines showed that they are very viable. Should they get the development miles that RG now has on the Hummer concept, they should prove very competitive. With many of the same mechanical components of the Hummer, a smaller, perhaps more nimble size, and lighter overall weight, they deserve more development time. The SMG is similar and has shown well also. The concept and the execution should be taken very seriously.
