Here is the weekend schedule for RGM at the Tennessee track. UPDATE: Robby Gordon had to withdraw after the McClaren techs couldnt diagnose the problem with the EFI/ECU shorting out. Car would not start.

All it's going to take is a few more missed races and forget about even showing up to the races. The last few weeks have to had hit the team hard in the wallet. It sucks not rooting for someone on Sunday. It's been a long time. Atleast I can still watch Supercross...

I'd be happier watching SX if half the contenders weren't hurt. Excuse my ignorance but who is McClaren? We're not talking the F1 engineers are we? Who are they working for,,, Nascar, Dodge,RGM? Are they a unbiased team that will help whomever needs help with the new EFI?

Bummer day for RGM but the sun will come up over the shop tomorrow...

McLaren makes the efi units. Their techs are at the track to deal with issues. They need practice, I think.

McLaren is a Racing & Automotive company created in the 1960s by racer Bruce McLaren. They started out in Sportscars & Forumula cars and even the Indy 500 in the 70s. Bruce was killed in a testing accident in 1970 but the team kept going. Sometime in the mid 80s the Technology & Automotive was spun-off into a separate company from the race team (well it used to be part of the race team & now the race team is part of it). Since 2008 they have been the exclusive supplier of the ECU package used in F1, they're also the supplier of the sole ECU package used in Indycar as well (though not sure for how long they have been). I know that since they took over as the sole supplier in F1 there has never been an ECU Failure, and like I said I'm not sure how long they've been involved with Indycars but it was said during the broadcast today that they've never had one of their ECUs fail in Indycar either.

So why all the problems in NASCAR? The Daytona problems & the Penske problems last week were with a sensor. Are they part of the ECU package or are teams allowed to use their own suppliers for those? Also wasn't atleast 1 of the Daytona problems related to a bad Fuel Pump? Tony's problem was that he just didn't do things correctly and his team was to stupid to check the circuit breaker as soon as he pulled into the pits with the problem so that wasn't an ECU problem but a User Problem. After Tony had his problem with the circuit breaker it was reported on Racehub that several teams were going to be bypassing the breaker in-order to prevent what happened to Tony from happening to them.

Robby said he fried the ECU, when I think of electronics and "fried" I think of a power surge.... If that is the case did RGM bypass the circuit breaker?

@Josh, where did you hear a sensor issue for Penske last week? the moment I heard Chad K. tell JJ the 22 was slow on the race track ,I switched the scanner over to the 22.It was reported on the moron-a-scope it's a blown engine.AJ rolls into the garage,Penske's group mess's around with the ECU.The engine re-fires,sound good in the garage.AJ rolls out, the engine is flat and fuel pressure is all over the place,he pulls back in.They replace the ECU,AJ continues at the tail of the field.
Late restart Brad K on the front row,green.The car back peddles so hard,I can't believe he doesn't get hit. I switch to Brad's scanner.They call him to the garage.Fuel cell change only.Re-fire the engine and send Brad out.Engine runs good,just like before.
Elliott Sadler's Daytona was the same as AJ's Vegas.Low/fluctuating fuel pressure.
Tony's problem was also a pump problem tripping the breaker.They claimed Tony bought the 'cheap' breaker's.Right
So did Na$crap dictate the pump setup/manufacturer? Notice little info on that issue!
It's rumored the Fords are running cable driven pumps, have they had ECU issues? Didn't Roush-YATES lobby for this POS system?!

Per Speed Channels show Nascar Performance there are three pump/fill plate vendors.Waterman builds the cable driven system.Ford teams are using this system primarily.I don't recall hearing of ECU issues for Ford teams.http://www.watermanracing.com/index.html
CV Products (Clyde Vickers -Brians dad) makes the dual lift pump/pressure pump/fill plate system that IMO causes the curcuit breaker/ECU issues.I still believe the lift pump in the left rear corner cavitates and seizes when the fuel level drops.
Fuel Safe also builds a lift pump/pressure pump/fill plate system.Their system mounts the lift pump up on the swirl pot and uses a ducks foot pickup in the right rear corner of the cell.This unit is not the popular electric pump system.
More pumps=more draw on the elecrtical/charging system.ECU's don't like low voltage or spiking amperage(high or low)
Maybe we can find out which pump/fill plate vendor Robby choose?

***update*** not all Ford teams use the Waterman.#13 Germains where using electric pumps at Daytona,and had issues.

I did read in the new Hot Rod that one of the teams is using a returnless fuel system, but they didnt give a name

If Rob and team figure it out, will it be a full race next week. I have watched him do well at Fontana before.

@JD, I still don't think so.the only thing more expensive than missing 2 races is running a complete race ( and has a shitty purse)
