Thanks Hendricus; The quick answer is heck no! IMO, the first Humbuggy was built primarily for the dunes, wide open expanse and uneven surfaces faced in the original DAKAR race down in Africa. It was also pretty competitive in the states when ran. The humbuggy with its longer, wider, wheelbase does help in the high SPEED roller sections dunes and fast long straightaways..
The shorter Gordini, comes equipped with a nice rear suspension design, plenty of rear wheel travel, newer technology throughout all in a neatly balanced little package. All this makes the Gordini one hell of a HUGE threat for DAKAR. I feel once RGM has the capability and resources to have at min., a two car effort we might not see the full 100% potential of the Gordini. As of now, without multiple cars on the team, breakdowns really suck for RG & KW. They must find the balance between going fast enough to keep the leaders within their sights, and mindful of the potential risks of running too hard. Hope this helps. Thanks for the questions.
Tool, I'm listening when you talk about how good the car looks coming through the rollers.
So Tool, just for the sake of chat (like there's a shortage, ha!), I want your opinion. Do you think Robby made the Gordini just a little too short?
But here again, it's well discussed that Robby needed the Gordini to be more nimble on the twisty single tracks. My guess is that he's achieved this. Therefore, I'm not advocating a wheelbase the same as the Hummer. I'm no expert at car design, I'm speaking only from my precious teaspoon of knowledge. In other words, I know squat.
But that never stopped me from asking a question and chat'n about something. So what's your opinion?
Im tellin ya right now, that was some haulin da mail right there! Take a good look folks, especially our part time friends and members who peek in here at the Planet from time to time. That is one very well working rig right there. The SPEEDs RG & KW were running, combined with the size of those rollers, showed what an awesome and well handling piece they have underneath them. The funny thing is, this rally is this rig's first real shakedown. You know RG very well may be thinking of how to make the chassis package better. BETTER! Can you imagine? That thing looks pretty amazing to me. Yet, we will never know. RG may think its perfectly dialed! Ya never know!
This team is amazing --- they never give up. Finishing the 5th stage in 3rd place and 19th overall is a testament to their courage and determination --- I am so proud of these guys.
Nice!
That new hood was running loose again!
Awesome, thanks will!
Beautiful shot, great video.
