They raced the short part of the track, they had more track when they raced the IMSA cars there. Thompson Ridge was always the best part of that event. I remember when they start the race all side by side for the Heavy Metal class 8's with Walker Evans and Robby going into turn 6 down the hill. Damm Mall there now, I will be out there on Saturday driving by it again, can never tell it was a race track out there anymore.

Painted white tires for rumble strips. They should bring that back, then no one will ever cut a corner or nose dive unless they are planning to wreck.

Nice I love it. As a kid my dad raced there often in the SCCA GT1 class. Wish I was older, I woulda enjoyed it even more.

The very first Winston Cup race I ever went to was at that track in the 80's! Sat right at the top of the S turns and watched Dale Earnhardt go straight right through the dirt, like a man on fire, think I was 10!

Now its just a damn mall. Like we needed more of those around...Riverside seems so much cooler than the fontana track will ever be.

Thanks for thinking of us West Coast people!

I have so many BIG memories of Riverside.

Here's a video I use to keep myself motivated on my 121 Galaxie project.

That is a pretty cool video. Too bad the track is gone. I ran a coupe of the Score races there and it was a great place to race. At the start you ran right towards the main grand stands and they were packed with 1000's of people. It was always one of the more popular races held at RIR. I drag raced there many time too and the shut down was so long you almost didn't need brakes.
