NIKAL, I remember several years ago Robby saying that on camera. My understanding now is he is allowed under the OP.1 2x4 SCORE rules

 

3P8 INFLATION/DEFLATION

Automatic inflation/deflation will be allowed for Group OP.2 vehicles if it exists as standard and providing the system has not been modified in any way. Automatic inflation/deflation systems are forbidden for vehicles in Group OP.1 4x4 even if fitted as standard (appendix J FIA, article 285.8).

 

Group OP.1:

All vehicles conforming to Score Regulations.

A vehicle complying with the "Score" Regulations may be accepted, on condition that the competitor

provides evidence that his vehicle is recognised by the "Score International" Organisation. The

vehicle must bear a safety inspection seal according to article GT2 of the Regulations governed by

this Organisation.

@Bad,this version didn't have the problems the previous units had.The old one mainly got rip'd off. The 2011 version was tested on the Pre-Runner prior to the 2010 Baja 1000.

What does all this do to flat tire changing time, if you get one?

The tire size is the other aid given to 2WDs,But the biggest advantage in Robby's case is suspension travel.4WD's are limited to 8" as memory serv's

Where did you hear that? Because that is not true. Allowing RG to have the inflation system has nothing to do with Hummer. It has to do with the fact that RG's Humbuggy is 2 wheel drive.

Here are the 2011 rules regarding air inflation systems.

GROUP T1: IMPROVED CROSS-COUNTRY VEHICLES
Group T1.1: Petrol 4x4 improved cross-country vehicles.
Group T1.2: Diesel 4x4 improved cross-country vehicles.
Group T1.3: Petrol 2-wheel drive vehicles.  (THE HUMMERS ARE IN THIS CLASS)
Group T1.4: Diesel 2-wheel drive vehicles.
Group T1.5: Lightweight Petrol.

T1 Rules;

Automatic inflation / deflation systems are forbidden for vehicles in Group OP.1 "4x4" even if fitted as
standard (appendix J FIA, article 285.8).



GROUP T2: CROSS-COUNTRY SERIES PRODUCTION VEHICLES

Vehicles homologated in the Cross-Country Group (vehicles must comply with the specific conditions
for Group T2 vehicles – Appendix 2 of the FIA Prescriptions).
Group T2.1: Petrol cross-country series production vehicles.
Group T2.2: Diesel cross-country series production vehicles.

T2 Rules;
Automatic inflation / deflation will be allowed for Group OP.2 vehicles if it exists as standard and
providing the system has not been modified in any way.

Being able to control the air pressure in the tires gives the 2wd Hummer the ability to alter traction for the given road surface. It was allowed by the ASO because Hummer installed it at the factory (on the H1)
