Dave, Just realize this was a test rig. Not the final product. There were many changes between this one and the one at the top of the banner. Try not to read too much from the photo other then basic design. The car is front engined, and built using experience gained with the SST program. The truck is almost 100% different then last years and will be better at the South American Dakar. The old Hummer was designed for a different rally using a difffernt set of rules (SCORE -vs- FIA) Its going to be fun watching this year. I can't wait for some pics from South America to start surfacing. Stay tunes "the fun has begun"
@Dave: IMO the wheelbase looks the same, so no, no bigger in length. Width, about the same too.
Thanks for the answers 7gason7 & redlinetech. Is the HST sitting on an SST frame or built with SST technology? My reason is the HST looks a lot bigger than an SST, but smaller than the Hummer. I read someplace there's a concern about the HST high end capabilities do to size (RG said 200mph) and although brick design is not the preferred design, this car was built using NASCAR & off road tricks by the expert for himself, so I don't see an issue, you? This pic got me thinking!!!Young person posing next to SST trruck
Don't hurt my mule....
Dave: Those are big rims (17")with even bigger tires (37")! The ratio keeps RG from getting these tires destroyed driving thru 2 feet deep whoops and roads littered with football sized rocks. (He said no flats, or no tire failures in Dakar 2013)
@Dave: Not if the air is passing through them on it's way outside, which I strongly suspect it will. Also King shocks are visible. And right side exhaust lie the SST's; possibly why we don't see it out the left side in the finished pictures?
Those are the radiators and coolers behind the seats? Won't that make the cabin super hot? Also, what are the benefits to what appears to me small rims with giant tires? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...
