Agree. The current package was stale 4 years ago. The new package will bring brains into the series that left long ago. Firestone has a "doing you a favor" attitude with a snotty Asian accent. Hoosier, is homegrown and IMO a win-win. The closeness of the field is misleading. There is more parity in the equipment by default since the package is so long in the tooth but the parity in the talent behind the wheel is the result of the current package and is most obvious on the ovals.
I think overall Randy has done a good job. The owners always talk big about having a 'czar' type at the helm but when it actually comes time to handing over the keys they chicken out. They had the perfect guy for the job when the brought in Chris Pook, unfortunately, it was 10 years to late to save a already sunken ship. Had they hired Pook in '92 when open-wheel was at its zenith, and as Gurney had pushed for, the split would not have happened.
