I've been a Robby fan since he came to NASCAR. I cheered for him when he was with Childress and loved his style. Robby reminded me of the guys that raced way back when, ready to take on the world and stand up for himself and not take shit from anyone.
Time does fly doesn't it. And I'm swamped at work too, bad economy so it seems everyone thinks that means they should sue their employer or former employer. But hey keeps me busy. Hope you're having a great day.
Guess you won't be here much since you will be buried at work. Do you have to hand sign the cards or can you use a stamp, labels, etc. I hope so. That would help a lot!! At least you are getting paid for it! I just spent time getting out over 12,000 letters. I am in charge of this project every fall. Now I am sitting back and waiting for the ones with the bad addresses to come back. Shouldn't be many as I proof them all before they go out. Last year I mailed 11,837 and only had just under 800 come back. Got most of them back out as most had the yellow stickers from the post office.
Anyway, know you are in my thoughts!! Are you doing ok health wise? Hadn't heard anything for awhile.
I bet you wished you could have taken that vacation in the Bahamas instead of all the doctors appts.
As for my envelopes, they arrive here at the end of Aug. I count them out into groups of 100 as it makes them easy to distribute. I have about 50 volunteers who help to address them. They have from mid Sept. to the beginning of Nov. I proof all of them and count them again as they come back in to me. (With address changes, etc. not everyone uses all of them or some need more) We got together on the 16th of Nov. to stuff them and then they were mailed the next day. BTW, this is for my local high school's alumni association. Now I sit back and wait for the dues to come back in to the treasurer. He gives me their forms so I can make sure the addresses have not changed. I also get the envelopes with the bad addresses as I mentioned before.
Hint on the envelopes in the printer. I find if I limit the quanities, then they don't seem to get jammed. It is a trial and error thing, but once you figure out how many you can do at a time, it is soooo much easier. ORRRR if you have the patience, you can feed them one at a time. It beats the labels and hand writing them. Guess it depends on the printer too.
Good luck on your project!!
My thoughts are with you on this project. Hoping they stick a little something extra in your Christmas card envelope if you know what I mean. After all of this, you deserve it!!
Hey Joan! I had heard about the #7 awhile back. Remember Robby runs the 7 in cup racing. She is not running in the cup series. Well at least not yet. Personally, I don't care for her. I would rather see her get in on her talent and not because her boobs make her marketable. I also read she and Milka are running ARCA at Daytona. I like Milka. I also like Sarah Fisher. Would love to see a female dominate or do a lot better than the ladies do now in one of the big name series.
I have met Tina and thought she was very nice. I always wanted to see Shawna Robinson or Patty Moise do more with their careers. Again, I wish Danica was approaching this on her talent (which is yet to be seen in the cup, nationwide series) vs the boobs and bikinis. If she can do that, I will get behind her and support her.
Of course we could not see Robby. I think the media, etc. doesn't realize how many fans the man has out there. If they did, they would showcase him better. Wishing him luck with Dakar!
Keep warm!!!
Hey Sweetie! We got hit with the snow here too as it came from the South. Nothing happened here for the longest time, while areas around us were hit hard. The storm shifted and we ended up with about 18 inches total for the town. Everything was shut down. I got my cars dug out yesterday as the snow here was just like fluffy sand. Not good for snowballs or snowmen. I did some running around today, and it is melting at a pretty good pace. Bad thing is when nightfall hits as it will all be ice.
As for the meeting of the drivers, you must remember I have been into this since I was 6 years old. People thought I was strange girl to be into racing, but it always appealed to me. I finally got to go to the races in the 80's, and I knew I was hooked! In fact, my love for racing got me my job. I have been there going on 17 years. The boys had to hire a girl in the shop so they offered me the job as they knew I liked cars, didn't mind dirt/grease, and I wasn't afaid to be one of the guys. It was just me and 40 guys. One big family of brothers.
We used to get pit passes thru work all the time to so many races. It was nothing to hang out with drivers in the garage or the pits. Then commercialism kicked in, and people forgot how to treat the teams with respect. I still find most people don't recognize drivers w/out the team uniform on. Ask Mouse, I have tried to teach him to recognize them in plain clothes.
When Chevrolet shut down their corp. office in Charlotte in the late 90's, the good stuff went away. Even though I mainly do Toyota stuff now, my heart will always remember the good ol' days of GM.
Keep warm and be careful!!
Joan wanted to pop in to wish you and yours a very happy holiday season, had major back surgery so haven't been on much (2 rods, 6 screws.) but wanted to say happy holidays our friend.
OOoooo champagne!! One of my favorites!!! Glad Christmas was great. Here's hoping New Years will bring lots of great times to come!
Booo hissss on the snow! Hate the stuff!
Christmas was pretty quiet here as well....I spent nearly the whole weekend in bed sick. Yuck! So far all the snow has avoided us here. The forecast first called for rain/snow showers mixed today but the sky was clear, the sun was shining ....... and they were salting the roads like crazy! What's up with THAT????
Here's hoping for a better 2010 and a Dakar trophy for Robby!
Thanks for stopping by - Haven't had much to say lately. Robby is running off road Parker - hope he does better than he did at Lalughlin. Focus on Olympics for next month LOVE SHAUN WHITE
Hey lady! Read Gibby's page like you suggested. Sounds like a mess up your way. The dinner in Havertown sounded good. MMmm Irish Cream Cake sounds really good. Anxious for the season to start, but glad to cheer for Robby so we always have something going on in the racing world. Don't know what this season will bring, but I can always hope it will be a good one.
Keep warm and take care! Love ya!!
Hey, lady! Darn - I was in PA week before last (Philly) and the weather wasn't bad then, quite warm in fact. We got our first major snowfall in years yesterday. It snowed all day but didn't really start to accumulate till about 3:30 or 4:00 and snowed all night. We have about 6 or 7 inches, I would guess. I haven't heard the official tally. As per usual, I decided it would be okay to make my usual Friday evening run to Kentucky for my week's supply of Java Monster and lottery tickets and as per usual, that was a BAD idea. I got almost there and the wipers started icing up. That just caused freezing stuff to smear up the windshield till I couldn't see the road and I ended up in a ditch. (No damage except to my pride) Had to get a tow truck to rescue me and take me and the trusty Celica to my destination, but a good friend there took me in for the night. I made it back home this morning as soon as there was enough light to actually see where the road was. This kid is staying IN the rest of the weekend! LOL
No timetable here Joan. Just touch base when you can. Doesn't seem fair you have to clean someone else's office. Not like it is their home. Unless they own the business, they should be responsible for their own mess.
Greetings Joan!! No jackpot winner here. If I did win Powerball, then so would some other Planeteers as we have been playing the same numbers. Can't have one of us run off into rich-rich land without the others!! Besides, it factory workers can do it, why not us???
Hope all is well your way. Did you get all the files and office cleaning done?
My trip to Philly was supposed to be in July but an opportunity popped up at the last minute --- literally! on Friday night before leaving Saturday morning. Don't know if I will be back in July or not...will have to wait and see.
No offense, but I really DON'T want to be there now with the weather you're having. Mine is bad enough. We had a 'winter storm' sneak up on us yesterday and dumped 6" to 8" of snow on us and now the temps are dropping (27 degrees now). The lovely folks at the Weather Channel say we could get another storm on Friday. NOT FUN!!!
Just got home from work myself. I have had enough of this stuff too! We are expecting 18 to 20 inches by tomorrow afternoon. We have 3" now of the fresh powder on top of the 3 ft we had. Telling us it will be blizzard like conditions tomorrow morning. YIPPEEE!! NOT!
Keep warm and be careful in it!
Hey Joan! I am in PA too this weekend. The sun has been shining since I got here so the stuff around us is melting quite nicely. Good thing too as I hate the stuff. Hang in there as it is only about a month until Spring.
Group of us planning on doing races other than Nascar this year, so if Robby wants to venture out too, we will be there to meet him! Take care and have a great weekend!
Different Burg than my hometown, but it is like my northern home away from home. Details in a pm. I come here often, so something could be arranged down the road. I had dinner last night with another Planet member who lives 15 minutes from here. I enjoy meeting the people I have friendships with when I can. One day we might work this get together out!!
I got to watch but I missed race chat. Also I was involved in helping a friend with computer lessons so I didn't get to pay as much attention as I wanted to the end of the race. I knew Robby was right up there in the mix toward the end so I was kinda surprised when he ended up 28th. Now if he just avoid the points free-fall like last year! Of course running the full season would help....perhaps some kind sponsor will come to the rescue!
Not sure what kind of car you have, but it sounds like the squealing noise was from the power steering system not having enough fluid in it. You would have noticed it more so on hard left or right turns. Imagine being at the end of your soda and the vacuum you make while trying to get that last bit out of the cup. Sometimes a plastic reservoir will crack (where the fluid goes) at the seam in the extreme hot/cold, but more than likely it was a seal in the gear itself. If you need a rack (the part your steering wheel connects to) it can be very costly. You may also have to get an alignment with the rack replacement. Unless you see obvious damage to your car, I would rule out it being hit. Have you been over any really large bumps or potholes in this weather? The heavy stress of movement could cause damage to the rack and cause it to leak as well. Curious to hear what it is. I wish you luck!
Good news you don't have to replace a lot or run into a lot of expenses. It is raining here too, but it is better than snow anyday. Hope you continue to get the good news!! Have a great Tues.
I tried to watch stupid Cali race but it put me to sleep, especially when JJ started stinking up the show. I listened to Robby piss and moan and bitch and gripe on the scanner, which made me wonder how long this crew chief will stay. If JJ runs away with the title again, NASCAR might as well fold their tents and go home. NO ONE will care about it anymore. (I heard later that Robby blew an engine with 20 laps to go....I wondered why he was 20 laps down when I woke up.)
Hey Joan!!! Nobody said it would be easy being a Robby fan. We just grin and bear it. Guess that is why I am excited to see Robby doing other things this year. Maybe he will find a better niche or we will find we really like the variety. As for Nascar, I still have Harvick and the other Childress boys to cheer for every week. I think it may make it exciting to know Robby has to qualify or go home. Make the team work harder if you know what I mean.
Hope you have a great week, and all is well with you health wise! Take care!
Awww work. Can't do without it as neither one of us is wealthy or have won the lottery. It has been really busy this week and then today it was like I barely had enough to do. Spent part of my day updating the techs computers. Of course basketball was on wherever there was a tv. After work I slapped some brake pads on the car. Gotta a rotational squeak now when I stop so thinking something is on the rotor. Hoping it will go away as the pads seed in. Always something. On the good side, the car does stop!! Will be meeting with the Toyota rep tomorrow morning so I know the first part of my day will be good.
Guess you are getting hyped on Bristol. I can't say the same. Sold my tickets and not regretting it a bit. Going to Indy with some Planet people here. I am actually more excited about that then Nascar. It is just hard to get excited about it anymore. Glad Kevin is doing well, but looking forward to seeing Robby in other racing events.
Have a great weekend!! Hope you get out to get some sun!
Hey there! Hope your Easter was nice. Mine was nice, stayed home with my family. :) We were actually spared a lot of snow over the winter, so have been enjoying the good life here...lol! Hope you got your nice warm day you were hoping for!! Take care!
No damage in San Felipe to speak of. Must be because of the sand. Sorry about your car. Better to run it into the ground. It is a non depreciating asset.
Hey Joan! I can understand and even forgive some of the kids for not knowing about WV (depending on their age), but not grown adults and NOT newscasters. I am in the part of WV outside of DC. It is about an hour and a half away. VA and MD are about 10 minutes in either direction from me. The other day when the news was breaking about the miners, a DC newscaster on a major station said the mine collapsed in Western Virginia. Heard it repeated in other stories and articles too. The mine where the explosion is right below our state capitol too. How much more WV can you get?
Hope you have a great weekend and Robby has a great race. It would be nice to have something good to celebrate on Monday!
Hey Joan. Yeah, I have been mia alot lately. Since April last year, things have been crazy...with a move to Ohio, looking for work, getting a job at Target and working weird hours during the holidays, then working the very early morning shift there. I just haven't had much time to get around to every site I used to go to. I did not know Robby has a book out...I have really been out of the loop here...lol. I might have to check it out. As for the #90 and #09 cars on my page, they are plastic model kits I built about 10 years or so ago. The #90 Publix Ford Thunderbird is Robby's 1991 Daytona 500 car...I kinda messed it up, but I still like it...might try making a diecast of it if I can find the decals again. The #09 Publix Ford Thunderbird is a fantasy scheme I did using the same decals and putting my name over the door.
NO on the Robby book. I know where Salisbury is and I have been there several times. Not too far from me.
The real shame about mining is what some companies are doing to the beautiful enviroment. Look up Mountaintop mining to see what I mean.
It was a good day in race chat here too. Gene did a great job as CC. Read his post here if you get a chance. It was nice having his insight.
Have a great week!
Well Joan, the simple answer to your question is this. After Texas, Robby fell out of the Top 35 in Owner Points (by 1 point) because the #34 (who was 36th, 7 points behind Robby) led a lap and finished 2 spots ahead of Robby at Texas and Robby did not gain enough on the #37 to pass him.
Now, for this race at Talladega, the Owner Points on NASCAR.com has not been updated. They do not update the Owner Points until the Race Results become official. Once the Race Results become official, Robby will be listed 34th in Owner Points. He will be 6 points ahead of the #38 (707 to 701) and 8 points ahead of the #37 who is in 36th (707 to 699),
The Target job is going pretty good. This week we are resetting the video game section with new fixtures (they started last night, I was at a Carrie Underwood concert), so we had our hours changed this week from 4am to 12:30pm (our normal hours) to 10:30pm to 7am. Send the WalMart joke via message on here (that way we don't offend any WalMart workers on here...lol).
I gotta correct my math Joan. Robby is 20 points ahead of the #38 who is now 35th in owner points (721 to 201) and 22 points ahead of the #37 who is now 36th in owner points (721 to 699). I had entered the wrong points for Robby...I shouldn't do this when I first wake up...lol.
Trust me Joan I know how owner/driver points work. I will just send you a cut and paste I read this morning:
Top-35 in Owner Points and guaranteed a starting spot at Richmond:
Changes: #7-Gordon finished 20th at Talladega and is 34th and has a guaranteed spot at Richmond, #37-Gilliland drops to 36th, 2 points behind 35th, now #38-Conway
Hope it helps! Inside voice when Robby is doing well?? Is there such a thing?
Joke was funny but so close to being true about some parents and the way they scream at their kids. You know I am always hoping Robby does well in whatever racing he chooses to pursue. Great to be his fan as we have a variety of things to watch.
Now you know why I listen to MRN instead of the tv. MRN/PRN gives so much more in detail. It also makes it nice when you can't be in front of the tv to know what is going one too!

It beats the labels and hand writing them. Guess it depends on the printer too.
