I'll probably be villified here. So be it. Here's the rule:
SEC8: No aircraft permitted for the purpose of race support. This includes but is not limited to flying over any race vehicle; transportation of drivers/riders and/or support crews (unless a medical emergency exists); communication with race vehicle; spotting for race vehicle; transportation of equipment and/or parts; ….., “ and a lot more. Read it for yourself here: Read it for yourself here: http://www.bitd.com/best-in-the-desert-rules/rules-for-all-classes....
Pretty much the same rule for SCORE. Nothing new.
The dudes fast. He's got talent. He's motivated. How many toes does he have left after shooting himself in the foot?
If Casey has proof of the infraction it must of occurred on the last race mile of the last lap, right? It certainly didn't happen on the first lap because that would of messed up the show.
What axe might Casey have to grind? Does it benefit him or BITD to DQ RG?
As for proof, again per the rules, the Director has, "full discretion to make any final determinations, judgements, or penalties..." Sue BITD? Good luck with that.
I think it sucks he was DQ'd. But I can't for the life of me see why BITD would do it if they didn't feel they had reason to.
Are you fuckin' kidding me? Did they DQ Robby opposed to doc him 15 minutes? Give me a fucking break. Somebody please tell me wasn't completely DQ'd. There's the race to throw out. Maybe they did this because Rob Mac broke down?
JFC. I hope Robby doesn't race the rest of the series and pull any racers he can not to race the BITD races.
Let's all bombard this pony tail pussy with tweets regarding his decision.
I can't wait to hear the radio transmission. You'd have to imagine they'd have something right?
Wes, not to vilify you but you’re right, almost, you can’t argue with the rule book but who is to say what the aircraft was being used for? Was it just to make some of those great Speed Energy videos (if they had permission IAW the rule book) we all love? The FAA did not issue a NOTAM restricting the airspace and if they followed the FAA rules they had every right to be there. So the real question is, was it used to violate the rule book, so like Robby said, prove it. Is it up to Robby to prove his innocence, or BITD to prove his guilt?
@David Z: Who's to say the rule was or wasn't violated? In this instance that's left to Casey. And his decision is final. That's quite clear in the published rules. He'd be out of his mind to assess a penalty if he wasn't sure of it. What's there to gain? It wouldn't be the first time RG, or a great big bunch of other competitors, has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. The envelope gets pushed to achieve competitive advantage. What new?
I don't think Casey in this instance has to prove anything. If RG knows he violated the rule he'll admit to it, probably. Ya' take your lumps and move on.
Glad to read that RG's removed himself from SST rulings. Back to my comment about how many toes does he have left.
OK Wes, since you ask, why is Casey setting rules on airspace over the FAA? If he is saying there was comms between the aircraft and the truck as accused, I’m sure there would be some recording of it. If there isn’t, than it’s just speculation. An old saying we had was “If it didn’t make it on tape, it didn’t happen”. If there is audio proof, why hasn’t it been released? I really don’t care if any rule was or wasn’t broken, that’s not the point I’m trying to make, but if you are going to accuse someone of something, you best have your facts in line before doing so. And I do agree that it is a good rule to restrict air support because it evens it up for the less funded teams. The question is still, what support was there, and why is there no proof of that support as of now? I wouldn’t make an accusation (and I’m not, just an example) that the 15 minute penalty was based on a bribed official without proof.
The race is run over a large area and a rule book written by him does not give him the right to close public airspace. If the penalty is based on just the use of that airspace, it’s wrong.
Showing why a penalty is assessed is much better than just saying “Because I said so”.
This is what I think was said between Casey & Robby. Casey: "Hey Robby why don't you grow a ponytail like mine?" Robby: "I don't want a ponytail, I don't even like mullets!"
