STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5:   Calama > Iquique

Connection 36km | Special Stage 423km | Total 459km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Full speed ahead! On this complete special, the riders and drivers will have to deal with a variety of terrains which each demand a special type of driving or riding. After a slow start on rocky, bad tracks, the crossing of a “salar” will also bring the average speed down: this section measuring just a handful of kilometres will keep the riders and drivers busy for about one hour. However, the day’s finish will take place on wide open off-track terrain over around one hundred kilometres. The festival of dunes is rounded off by the descent to Iquique, which promises a whole bag of thrills to all thrill-seekers. Opposite the sea, the competitors will descend a 2.3-km slope, at an average gradient of 32 %!

Wonder how Robby Gordon would do in this stage
I don't know what we will talk about here.
Are you kidding, if he can run tomorrow, this place will explode!  Hope foor the best.
Man, just got off the casino floor, what a bummer.  Won a couple bills playing number 7, couldn't hit anything on 30 or 3.  All we can do is hope for a start tomorrow, but I wouldn't bet on it.  If he makes it, the rest of the race should be GREAT entertainment with nothing to lose.

Is he in? They said last night they'd have an answer at 8:00 this morning?

Guess it's over...

Have to watch Mead & the bikes.

Robby, do the stage anyway! Screw the ASO we want to see you in the rally!
And the 327
as posted on the main page, Robby is out of the 2011 Dakar rally. thanks for all the support

That is a shame that he can't continue, but it can't be helped.

Right now I just hope he returns for the 2012 Dakar. Judging by his comments on Marathon-Rally, he is considering not coming back...

Salazar is currently 35th halfway through stage 5
Thanks for the update.  It is very stressful not to know how they are doing.  The DAKAR live feed is not very reliable.
