As of 12-4-12, there has been NO ANNOUNCEMENT from RGM about it's plans for the upcoming 2013 Dakar Rally. The entry list at Dakar.com is NOT the final entry list. With the rally starting in Peru ( instead of Argentina ), it's almost 3,000 miles closer than past rallies for shipping the vehicles. I believe we should hear something official very soon. Keep in mind some of Robby's 2012 Dakar plans didn't take shape until late November / early December 2011.
That thing Nasser is going to run does look fast.
Does anyone know much about these buggies that Nasser has commissioned ? I looked at the Red Bull site and some other sites, but it was hard to tell much about the cars. Are they smaller, and with a shorter wheelbase than the Hummer ? They sort of look that way. And there are a bunch of other new buggies too ? How unfortunate if Robby doesn't come.
As an aside, I did see an interview with Nasser where he clearly stated that he got the idea from running the Hummer last year, so at least he's being clear about that.
been out of the loop so mods can delete if this is old news
Says "Dakar organisers said Gordon's Hummer fulfils all regulatory requirements following preliminary checks.
"Gordon, whose best result in the South American rally is a third place in 2009, will have Kellon Walch as his navigator. "
Guess I can now plan my vacation time!
"Disqualified from Dakar 2012 where he was ranking 2nd overall, Robby Gordon enters with a Hummer which, following preliminary checks, fulfills all regulatory requirements. The American will be at the starting line on 5 January and adds his name to the list of contenders for the title."
No mention of a second entry
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes aaaaahhhhhhhh! My life has meaning. I rewriting the song in my head from "DJ saved my life" to "RG saved my life". Thank you Robby, best Christmas present ever.
Here is the post on the Dakar site
This this the best write up of any driver by ASO. They know what a powerful brand Robby is for Dakar. It makes the race come alive. I hope Robby, Nasser and Carlos all smack those Mini's into wearing skirts.
Petter the Pecker is already bitching and moaning. (google translate version, so some funky English below)
Dakar 2013: Robby Gordon and return semis starting
(AFP) - 2 hours ago
PARIS - American driver Robby Gordon, excluded from the 2012 edition of the Dakar rally in Latin America "technical noncompliance" with its powerful Hummer will start on January 5th in Lima the 34th, announced Wednesday ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation).
Commitment at the last moment Gordon, the "bad boy" of the race whose conduct spectacular spice and the escapades regularly Dakar and the delight of fans, becomes the headliner of the car category in semis .
The American, third in 2009, lines up alongside effect last three winners of the race, the French driver Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini), Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Buggy) and Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Buggy).
Its commitment to the 2013 edition between Lima and Santiago, via Argentina, was confirmed on last weekend after three scrutineers of the organization were provided during pre-checks in his workshops Charlotte North Carolina, the technical conformity of his monster two-wheel drive Hummer H3.
The announcement of the return of Robby Gordon on Dakar2013 was more than lukewarm hosted by Stéphane Peterhansel, the French champion, 10-time winner (6 motorcycle, auto 4) of the rally:
"This is a cheater born, he told AFP. We're here to compete, not for show.'s Race, this is not the circus, even if it pleased the audience."
"We must fight on equal terms," said Peterhansel, referring to yourself not made last year by the U.S. on its engine to increase its power, and which earned him to be excluded from the competition while he was in 2nd place overall.
"Robby Gordon must comply with the rules. If this is the case, it is welcome. Otherwise ..." concluded the French champion, ready to fight from the start in the dunes of Peru.
Sounds like Peterhansel is mad that he is not the center of attention. And obviously he deserves some, as clearly he was the winner. But all the Dakar highlights focus on the hummers jumping through the air, and S. America clearly loves the Hummers. You can just imagine Peterhansel furious
I have the quote somewhere from last year, after Stage 6 or 7? He was complaining that Robby/Nasser drive too reckless, and it forces him to take unnecessary risks. Really? you are a race car driver.
