In case you missed it there was a 'big one' on the first lap of the Supercross main at Dodger Stadium. Cunard hooked a tuff-bloc cover on his footpeg and was going slow through a triple set when Morais landed on him.

Trey Cunard has several vertebrae fractures that will require surgery, but “Canard has 100-percent feeling in his legs." Ryan Morais suffered a broken jaw, several fractured vertebrae and some broken ribs. There is no sign of spinal cord damage at this time.

God speed to both in their recovery.

Of course, it's not the first time a rider has landed on another but I can't help but question whether Supercross really needs triple jumps and bikes 60 feet in the air. Personally I would rather see more 'natural' obstacles instead of a track full of near vertical launching pads. Add a couple of water crossings, mud holes, deep sand sections, a hard pack straight to show who has the horsepower and who has the balls to taking in deep at the end. Track designers need to look at the L.A. Coliseum layout from the '80s. Supercross tracks today are getting too gimmicky....almost cartoonish, and a fatality will be no laughing matter.

My rant.

Torrance, CA: Team Honda Muscle Milk rider Trey Canard underwent surgery Tuesday night after sustaining a back injury at Saturday’s Supercross event at Dodger Stadium. The purpose of the procedure was to stabilize the injured area. “The surgery went exactly as planned,” said Trey’s brother Aaron. “He is still in some pain and discomfort but is able to deal with it better and better. He is staying positive and his spirits are up, which is great to see. Depending on how the next few days go, the doctors are hoping Canard can be released to go home by the end of the weekend.”

American Honda will release additional news on Canard’s condition at the family request.

I think I'm with you guy's...I love the old school tracks. The Supercross tracks of today, IMO, are defined by what the bike can handle.Should be more along with what the rider can handle in traffic. Hard to say. It is a great show....but it's to bad when someone get's hurt. First time I saw Tyler ( my 14 yr. old at that time) clearing the triple's at Hangtown I was stoked for a split second then.....Holy crap hope he doesn't crash. Where's my insurance card.

I hear ya J.R. The first time I saw Trey clear a double on a 85cc I nearly had a coronary.
