First Trey Canard and now Chad Reed.
From Cyclenews
It's official: Chad Reed is out for the rest of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series after suffering myriad of injuries in his crash on Saturday night in the Dallas Supercross.

Initial scans have revealed the Australian has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, broken his tibia and fibula, sustained two broken ribs and has a broken T6 vertebrae, a release from his team said.

Reed will undergo surgery on the knee when the swelling goes down.

"To say I am hurting right now would be a major understatement," Reed said in the release. "I am just trying to figure out what hurts more, the injuries or the fact that I am going to be out for a while with knee surgery. This is bitterly disappointing. I felt like I had everything in my corner this time. I've never felt more comfortable, from the bike and team to my riding.

"I was genuinely in a position to fight for race wins week in week out and expected to be going to Las Vegas for a shot at the title. To my sponsors and fans thank-you for your messages of support, they mean a lot. This is a difficult time."

The TwoTwo Motorsports team and sponsors will regroup over the next week and formulate a plan to move forward. According to the release, Reed is aiming to return for the outdoors, but that goal will be re-evaluated by doctors post surgery.

In other news Cole Seely will replace Trey on the 450 during non West weekends.

Big question is, who can challenge Villapoto for the championship this year? The only one that had a shot was Chad, and from the past few races, he was the only one that could keep up with him.
Stewart is out.....looks to me like, Dungey better step it up, or Villapoto gets another one, unless he pulls a Reed or Canard!

I'd offer to sub for him but I'm too old, slow, and sometimes get nose bleeds if I'm over 8' above the ground.

I get them if it's to hot.
Dungey can step up.We'll see what Seely has this weekend.
For what ever it's worth I've broken my tib and fib and ripped my ACL and PCL from the bone (+ other stuff) my heart goes out to Chad, I wish him a career saving recovery. It will fucking hurt,I can't wish that away.

No need to sit by the phone guys, from CR's twitter-

FYI at this time I have zero interest in putting someone on my bike. Benefit to cost ratio doesn't even come close to making sense... #sorry

I'm not making light of it, really. I have my share of screws, pins and zippers including six knee surgeries (thanks, football) and it's a tough rehab. At 29, Chad still a young guy and in great shape but those bones are still 29 years old. Injuries like Chad's have ended many a career in the stick and ball sports.

I didn't watch the race until last night, but I had heard about the injuries before that. My heart is broken for Chad. I sure hope he is able to come back from this.

I agree with 1splat, looks like RV will run away with this championship unless Dungey steps up. Stewart could still go on a major win streak, but we all know he will pull a Bubba and crash more too. Now who am I going to root for in 450?

The only one I see who may be able to consistently put pressure on Villopoto is Dungey. Bubba will have his usual flashes of speed and brilliance between streaks of....well, being Bubba.

my heart sunk today when WJM e-mailed me.More or less this was my reply to his e-mail. Dungey rode a gutsy race last week with a crack'd collarbone.Daytona is a great race to miss. All it would take is one DNF for Dungey to be in the Championship hunt.Second is still up for grabs.

All it would take is one DNF for Dungey to be in the Championship hunt-should have read one DNF for Villopoto

Do you think he can heal fast enough to return in time?

Yep
I've never had a plate on the collar bone (I wish,I wanted,it might have extended my road race deal) could it hurt more than a crack'd collar bone? In road racing he'd return next week,I think Dungey is that tuff!
