NASCAR fans across the nation have once again made a statement about their favorite driver. After tallying over one million votes, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the recipient of the 2008 NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver Award.

The NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver Award is recognized as one of the sport's pioneering awards. Drivers first voted amongst themselves for a winner before fans later voted on the winner. The top 10 drivers receiving the most votes in alphabetical order were Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart and Michael Waltrip.

Voting for the 2009 NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver Award will begin in February of 2009 at www.ChexMostPopularDriver.com.

As the voting for the All-star race proved, Robby Gordon fans can make a difference. In that voting he finished second to Kasey Kahne.. who, of course, was a shoe in. Kahne also made the top ten for the Most Poplular driver voting. Obviously, ousting Earnhardt from the top spot would be nearly impossible (unless he did something like get caught mugging someone's grandmother or something). I am realistic. But getting RG in the top ten would be a message to the world of NASCAR. He would almost have to get noticed by the race coverage, which I know I would appreciate as his coverage severely is lacking in my opinion. Unfortunately, the Chex site doesn't show what the vote tallies are, but if we as members of Rob's fan base started voting in Febuary and every day thereafter for the entire season we could definitely have a chance to get him in least the top ten. RG fans are diligent.. and loyal.. and good at voting. So go to the site, add it to your favorites, and wait until Febuary... the site also gives NASCAR scene headlines so that's a bonus.
