me I dislike it, consider it way to much hype, and takes away form the racers and the race, only the select few, there are alot of folks out there that are truely interested in the rest of the field. And the broadcasting network either speed, espn ,tnt, abc put way to much emphasis on the race for the chase. what say you?

I say it sucks.
The chases ensures the championship will generate some interest and excitement - if only the TV folks would get over themselves, it'd be better.

Look at the nationwide series, there's still a dozen races left, and the championship has already been decided. How interesting would the last six weeks of the NFL be if you already knew who won the superbowl?
I just personally think it takes away for the races at hand...they only focus on the big dogs..it is what it is when it comes to the end of the circuit, they guy that got the most top 10's wins .......... All im sayin is stick to the race @ hand...and ocassionally show all the race cars durning the race even if its a flash...
no different than any other sport - teams that aren't challenging for the championship get ignored in other sports too. Who cares about the Raiders ever?
i like them both.....the chase for the cup and the chase for the 35th both will be exciting to watch
home all excellant pts..my sentiments exactly
You must mean the Iroc/chase format.....I guess i am just old school, or just getting old....HA. I liked the old format, it worked just fine
I don't mind the Chase. As others have said, seeing the championship all wrapped up early in the season took some of the excitement out of things. At the same time, I've always felt that consistency should be rewarded, and would hate to see NASCAR turn the chase into a circus. Ending the season with a race at Daytona seems to be one of the ideas they are floating around, and I'd hate to see things hinge on a crap-shoot like that.
The Chase is nothing but a gimmick to help spike television ratings.
The chase was designed because NAZICAR is greedy. Think out it, NAZICAR saw an explosion in value, popularity, attendance,TV ratings, then "they determined" that a change was needed to make the stuff even more climatic, even though old school was what got folks into it. Then came the Track boom with 1 1/5 sleep zones.....to me the chase is nothing but a bag of hype and NAZICAR sees the sport slipping back to yesteryear (the way I liked it) and they want to change it again. In short I never liked it....you dominate with dependable finishes you with the championship. Like Kenseth did....how many races did he win that year again?
Hate it, takes away from a season of hard racing, teams only focus on making the top 12 all year, and those with a lead lose all the points they earned. Johnson would only have 2 championships if it wasn't for the chase format.
Most Nascar fans have a driver that they pull for. If that driver is ignored, the fans as well as the sponsors leave. It seems like they start talking about drivers in the top twelve earlier each season, and pretty much ignore the rest of the field. I couldn't care less who wins the championship if it's not a driver I'm backing. I would be happy if they never said the word "chase" again. I also think that it should be mandatory to show each driver at least twice during a race while mentioning their sponsor. Sponsors are leaving Nascar because they get no value for their money if their car is never shown or talked about during a race. Why invest the money for no exposure.
