Volkswagen to NASCAR? The latest entry into America's most popular motorsports series could very well be the first ever from Germany. According to Matthias Muller, the newly appointed CEO of Porsche, Volkswagen Group -- his employer's parent company -- is considering entering NASCAR. Should it follow through, Volkswagen would be just the second foreign automaker to participate [full-time] in NASCAR. Toyota was first, entering the competition in 2007 [actually Jaguar and others have run a few races, with Jaguar winning a race. Volkswagen actually ran one race in 1953]. The German automaker will reportedly begin discussions with NASCAR officials once the current season ends in late November. One of the owners that Volkswagen is considering team up with is Roger Penske.(Motortrend)

It means that the Union is majority owner, and FIAT only 20%.
Fiat has the chance to by 51 or 52% of Chrysler coming up real soon. Fiat trying to make an american presence again
Thanks, Alan, I forgot about the Italians taking out the Germans (didn't they used to be on the same side?) Sheesh, a guy needs a program to keep up! Detroit has had its own "silly season" the last several years. I guess Fiat wanted to jump into our market and compete with Ford and "you and me" (Govt. Motors). BTW, hasn't Penske been running Dodges for several years?, so I think I've got you on a technicality, anyway.;-)
Penske's contract with Chrysler is up after 2011? And it would take any engine manufacturer most of a year to come to grips with the relic called push rods and flat tappet cams!
Are the engine really manufacturered by the 4 or only certain parts like the blocks, heads and cranks? What is to prevent XYZ motors who wants to get into the NASCAR arena from having TRAID or Cosworth buying the pieces and building them under the XYZ name. The answer is probably NASCAR rules but we know how they can change overnight. In NASCAR with enough money, you can get any outcome you want.
The 4 manufactures produce blocks. And that part as many others has to go thru the approval process.
The VW group won't enter Na$crap.2 major reasons.1) the pay'ola amount the France's will demand. 2) Both Dodge and Toyota where forced by the France's to compete in the Truck series before allowing them to enter Cup.VW truck?
And if the France's cut VW a deal and allow them in Cup bypassing the Dog and Pony shows, I'd say look for Toyota to show the France's the middle finger salute as they're walking out the door.
IMO
VW could always bring in Scania or MAN as the truck. They own the former and have a 30% stake in the latter.
Hey kenyon BIG ;B; how about full roller rocker like nationwide then fuel injection in2014 or so? i cant believe the rpm's these thing handle i know they run shorter rocker arms to get the lift needed off the cam anyway its goin there ha? talk to ya later.
Daimler sold thier share of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007. Cerberus lost all it's equity in the automotive portion of Chrysler (but retained Chrysler Financial) when Chrysler lobbied for bailout funds. A condition of getting those funds was to find a viable partner in the auto biz. That's where Fiat came in.
the #7 Extenze Panamera car...think about it
It doesn't mention NASCAR, but this WSJ article outlines VW's plans for the US. The new US built and targeted sedan is scheduled for release next year, so a 2012 entry into NASCAR would be the right timing, if that was their plan.
