#7 Speed Factory.TV Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 presented by Target
Pre Race Report
· RGM’s Big Adventure – Robby Gordon Motorsports once again finds itself looking from the outside the top-35 in owner’s points and must qualify their way into the race at Pocono. After a disappointing 34th finish at Charlotte, Gordon will be very busy doing double duty this weekend. First he’ll be looking to improve his SCORE point’s position at the Baja 500 on Saturday, then he’ll fly to Pocono on Sunday to drive the #7 Speed Factory.TV Toyota for the ProGlide 500. Long-time NASCAR veteran Ted Musgrave will practice and qualify the car for Rob on Friday and Saturday.
· Scheduling Sweet Spot – While Gordon’s 2010 season can be best described as lumpy, the team can build considerable momentum in what is typically their strongest part of the schedule. After Pocono, the next two weeks include stops at Michigan and Sears Point – both are home to solid Robby Gordon finishes. Long-time Gordon fans will fondly remember the heady days of being in the top-10 after the Sears Point race during the 2003 season, including their second win of the year at Infineon (the first was at the Duels in Daytona).
· Slider on the Hamlin/Busch Feud – I have to say, I have a lot of time for Denny Hamlin. Seems a solid guy and I love how despite the way he keeps banging up his body, he’ll man-up and drive the car the next week. Kyle Busch, on the other hand, is just a tool…a self-absorbed, asshole driver with talent. It was with great relish watching Jeff Burton (with wife Kimmy in tow) rip Kyle a new one after the 600 last week. His reputation for aggressive driving is wearing thin. However, if another driver gives the #18 the business during a race, all of a sudden Kyle throws down the “woe is me” stuff. Stop it dude, really.
Robby Gordon quotes: “I always approach this weekend with mixed feelings. While I really like the infield scene at Pocono, I have to give my south-of-the-border peeps some love too. But I feel good about having Ted in the car on Friday and Saturday while I’m tearing up the dirt in Baja. Gene and Ted go back a long time, so I know when I jump in the car on Sunday, it’ll only be really tight, instead of really, really, really, really tight.”
Gene Nead quotes: “It’s great to be paired up with my pal Ted again. This reminds me of the time when we were both in band camp, and I got really drunk and so did Ted, and Ted decided to do something weird with his trombone….good times”.
Editor’s Note: I’m always looking for new ways to be innovative on these race reports. As you know, one the more popular features on Slider’s pre race reports are the Monster Girl pin up photos. But I that just didn’t’ seem be enough enjoyment for you RGM fans. So today, I’d like to introduce a YouTube video as something of a celebration to one of the true joys of summer. See my page for the video.
