Robby has done alot better than his results or standings indicate...just look at teh season so far:

Daytona- In position to get his lap back and finally had the car dialed in but gets knocked out when Junior & Vickers get together (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Fontana- Untimley caution puts the team 2 lasp down, never able to make up ground and car was Top 15 on the speed chart. (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Las Vegas - Finished 15th

Atlanta- Tire issue, finished 26th

Bristol- Finished 21st

Martinsville- Had a fantastic car, but engine let go. (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Texas- Another engine issue (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Pheonix - Gets wrecked by someone else (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Talladega - Avoided the Big One, making a late charge and gets hit by another car and taken out (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Richmond Finished 16th Solid day

Darlington - Caught up in another wreck (Just Bad Racing Luck)

Charlotte- Race strategy paid off finished 3rd

Dover - Robby has a fast car, but untimely caution catches Robby 2 laps down and gets wrecked by another car (Just Bad Racing Luck)

8 times Robby has had Bad Racing Luck wreck him, tire issue or engine problem. It's all part of racing but most of thsoe "bad luck" deals Robby was running well. The team has been solid with Kirk onboard. Biggest issue is slow pit stops. Robby is being forced to pass cars again on teh track he's already passed. Puts him in bad situations. Hopefully they can fix the pit stop issues. If you looked at last year, Robby typically showed up quick but would start to fade. This year Robby shows up slow, but seems to fast race day. Kirk must be making solid adjustments.

Listening to yesterday's race, what really hurt Robby was Robby. When Kirk called for 4 tires and fuel with no changes, Robby asked to take a little out to free him up. The car wasn't the same and then they went with 2 tires the next stop and that really bit them. Robby really needs to communicate what the cars doing and let Kirk make the call. Robby can drive better than most of the guys out there, but he tends to over adjust with his suggestions. Robby has great strategy with when to pit and when to stay out, but adjustments calls he rarely gets right. Listen to Tony on the scanner, he will tell Grubb what teh cars doing, then Grubb says let's do this, Tony then says okay. Robby should sit, playback and listen to Tony's scanner conversations. Robby & Tony are alot alike, and in my opinion two of the best. The edge Tony has is he lets his crew chief do his job.

Great post and agree 100%.
Could not agree more =) I will give some credit, he has improved over what he used to be...but just needs to listen the crew chief ALL of the time.
I really hope Doug becomes the permanent spotter for RG .
that would be awesome!
he was really good...liked his style. Knew what was going on all over the track at all times.
I have been saying this all year. But a fantastic car at Martinsville, come on let's be honest the car was ok at best.
yeah that was a stretch.
The bottom part of your comment almost seems like it could have been copied and pasted from any of the thousands of posts made last week about Joonyer/Eury Jr.. Funny, reports this morning say Joonyer was all full of "yes Sir, no Sir" remarks on his scanner yesterday.
Lemme be the devils advocate. I've said those very things in sarcsim many a time. Yes Sir to someone who doesn't desrve it translates to something diff in my head.
One other thing, Martinsville....Wasn't that the race with the "Foose Arrow" car? The arrow that looked like a broken compass all day??? That was before the motor let go. I think Harry Hyde shoulda got out there & checked Cole's tach after that one. Somethin tells me the clock stopped @1700

Secret decoder rings available @ menards...
LMAO on this one Mike, especially the broken compass. RGM has done well this year, it is the "one of those racing things" that seems to keep them behind in points. I still wanna know the details on the shock bolt in feb.
I can agree with most of this...after the first stop...I would have liked Kirk to try and calm Robby down a little more. Robby's line was perfect and up to 117 caution was picking off cars one by one. He was faster than the 24 for most of the first part of the race but Jeff gets a pass from everyone to start up front on the restart even though he is actually behind Robby on the track.

It was frustrating to watch and listen knowing his times and how good he was doing and see it end that way and see the 88 who got 3 extra laps out of his tires but was slower than Robby all day stay on the lead lap.
If your only acceptible definition of success is vying for the championship, then you are a fan of the wrong driver.

I think Robby is quite successful in what he does - he keeps a number of folks employed in both his NASCAR and Off-Road teams. He makes enough money to live a very comfortable life. And he does things for a living that any of us would love to be able to do just once in a while.

Could he get better results if he did it differently? Perhaps, but he'd be giving up something, and he wouldn't be the stubborn independent cuss who can drive anything that most of us started cheering for. If the racing business climate were to change such that Robby would not be able to continue as he does now, then I bet he'd see it and bail out before any of us even noticed something changing - I think he was close to doing that last year with the GEM deal.

All in all, he seems pretty damn successful to me.
