I was just watching the practice coverage and they interviewed Robby. He said they way he read the rule and they way NASCAR did is different. He also said the car was leagal befoe and after the race and he is going to appeal.

Good to hear, but unfortunately its Nascars rule. So the way Nascar reads the rule is going to be right, the way RGM did is going to be wrong.

I could be wrong, time will tell.
I hope he wins...but I think so far he got out light...but it could be because he did nothing wrong?
Unless the appeal board agrees with Robby that the language is ambiguous.

Here's another case where it would be really nice if fans had access to the rule book. I'd like to read the rule myself, and then here both Robby and NASCAR's interpretation.
$400 and its yours! price for a NAscar membership I believe....
They will probably pull the same crap they did last year and say ok here is your points back but it'll cost ya $100,000
i would love to read the rule book.
If it was ok before the race, then it happend durring the race..... What do they expect. these cars are bouncing off everything.
did they tech Carl Edwards car after it flew through fence at dega? his rear toe was out......No different than an incondent on the track
I understad what your saying, but...

Lets say a team figured out a way to have the toe "flop out" during a race. Maybe a simple setup with oblong bolt holes and bolts that are tighetened just enough to "loosen up" from minor contact with the wall.

Dont think it could be done? In the early 80s, the GM G-body cars (especailly the Buicks as I recall) had a rear bumper that acted like a parachute on the straight aways. A few teams devised a way to have weak bumper supports that would fail from the smallest tap. So in the race, a slight nudge from a competititor made the bumper fall off, causing the car to pick up straight away speed.

This is just an example. I am not saying RGM meant to cheat, merely I am pointing out if teams could simply blame out of spec issues on track damage, they would try to get away with a lot more than they already do.
I think they should just walk away and let things settle! Like Nina said, this could go awfully wrong!
I would pay the money in a heart beat if that was the case. If the appeal doesn't go through, oh well, move on and kick some ass in Dover.
Robby would be good at this, he's in the wall enough! Maybe thats the reason why!
If a rule is ambiguous, then it needs to be rewritten or someone needs to create a drawing showing the measurements for the part. You can't build a house without a drawing, so why does NASCAR think you can build a car with listing a bunch of rules.

I hope that this car has a different rear end!
I'm glad to see that he is appealing the fine! I had actually forgot about the mishap during the week until getting on here last night due to being so busy, but glad the initial penalty wasn't that bad. I think this shows though that Robby wasn't cheating and that he was just working in the gray area!!!
