"Forget The Chase, Jimmie has that locked up. If the viewers and fans want to see real action, then they need to watch me, Scott Speed, Marcos Ambrose, and Sam Hornish fight for our 2009 lives!" Robby was referring to the Top 35 rule the guarantees a driver a spot in the first 5 races of 2009, including the Daytona 500. Two of the drivers will make it, while two will likely be on the outside looking in. Currently, Gordon & Speed are locked in with 2 races remaining.

GORDON'S RACE WITHIN A RACE

When Robby Gordon takes the green flag in Sunday's Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, he'll have his eye on two cars in particular -- and they won't be leading the race.

Gordon will be keeping track of the No. 84 Red Bull Toyota driven by Scott Speed and the No. 47 Toyota driven by Marcos Ambrose. The reason? Gordon's No. 7 Dodge is 34th in owner points, and the Nos. 84 and 47 are the two cars immediately behind him.

Gordon, an owner/driver, leads the No. 84 by 16 points and the No. 47 by 60. The top 35 cars in the year-end owners' standings are guaranteed starting spots in the first five races of 2009.

"I think you watch them," Gordon said of Speed and Ambrose, "(but) you have to race the cars that you're around at the same time. You have to be realistic about it. I think that we have a top-20 car (for Sunday's race). We were ahead of both of them in practice, so I feel pretty good about where we're at."
