WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 8, 2009) – After Friday’s final
practice Robby Gordon and his No. 55 crew had the Hard Rock Hotel
& Casino Las Vegas Camry dialed in for Saturday’s NASCAR
Nationwide Series qualifying. NASCAR utilized a unique qualifying
procedure for the Zippo 200 at the Glen, sending the drivers out in
groups to run a maximum of five laps. The fastest of the five laps
recorded by each driver determined the starting grid for today’s 82-
lap event. Gordon went out in the last and toughest group of
qualifiers; it was exclusively made up of Sprint Cup Series regulars.
He posted the third quickest time of the day with a top speed of
121.427.
“The most important thing is we got into the show. Yesterday, they
were calling for rain this morning, but the weather is nice today. It
was imperative that we got an opportunity to qualify since we were a
go or go-home car. Now that we have qualified well for today’s race,
we can build from there. To be rolling off in the third position is great
for our team since it is our first Nationwide start in over a year. I am
extremely happy with the effort of this team. I am glad to have the
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and The Rogue Joint on the car this
weekend. We are looking forward to putting on
