CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR has suspended former driver Randy LaJoie for violating its substance-abuse policy.

In an interview Tuesday on SIRIUS XM Radio, Lajoie says he smoked marijuana once in May.

LaJoie was tested by NASCAR because he wanted to become a spotter for one of Joe Gibbs Racing's Nationwide Series teams.

He has not competed at any of NASCAR's top three national levels since 2006 and has been an analyst for NASCAR the past several years.

In the interview, LaJoie says he also has been suspended from ESPN.

Lajoie raced in 44 races over 12 years in NASCAR's elite Cup Series. His success was in the Nationwide Series, where he won 15 races over 19 seasons.

Never would have suspected him.
Randy Lajoie, pothead - who'd have thought?
Wonder if Brian France gave em' the news Lol- "your suspended, holdout"
That was the most expensive joint he ever smoked.....
How many drivers use Lajoie seats? Do you think it would be beneath NASCAR to suddenly declare Lajoie seats no longer conform to NASCAR rules and ban their use?

"After thorough investigation, we have concluded that Lajoie seat fabric is made from hemp. Also, the cushioning material was positively identified as containing seeds and stems."
Might explain some of the driving.........
That's Funny...........But Randy is a big boy and when he burned one with a buddy he should of thought his future not the now........Then go and test a short time later.
Met Randy at a moto show a year ago... I could see it happening. Man was he different in person than on t.v! He was having a grand ole time at the show while showing off his seats and Leatt braces. I thought it was really cool how down to earth he was, but I guess he was a bit too "down to earth". Still a great guy and awesome racer IMO
He has officially changed his name to Randy LaJoint
TOG can I use that........lol
Are you guys seriously pissed? Jeez, he smoked some bud, so what. Sounds like he needs to move west. Go get drunk and gamble.
Nascar & Espn think its a big deal. His paycheck is going to think its a big deal. So, yes, in an industry that has zero tolerance , it is a big deal.

However, if he was in the NBA , it wouldn't be a big deal at all...lol...
