You realistically don't have to look any further than the 36 team to see that occasionally S&Ping can pay off. That team started out on a S&P strategy a couple years ago and now have full time sponsorship and are racing full time and even expanding. You gotta start somewhere...

FRM started out with 3 teams, 2 S&Ps' ti fund the primary. Additional sponsors have come aboard (Gander Mtn, Academy, Black Cat, etc) allowing full races from time ti time. However, their business plan is to fund their primary car (#34 team). The #34 is solid in the Top 35 (+100 points).

IMO, Daytona examplified RGM's problem... Lack of cash and RG's focus on the Speed business. The good news is he is still racing!

Disagree. The problem at Daytona was self-inflicted by mistake in the pit, penalty, followed by a huge mistake by Miles. Being a lap down wasn't detrimental, the mistakes added up and cost the team. The lack of funds is noticeable, but the mistakes were glaring! Amazing RGM is still inside the Top 35. It didn't hurt that the 21 & 71 team had poor finishes.

Definitely, the lap down didn't hurt a thing, the ballup was all pit road stuff... he would have found a trailer mate when it mattered, if he was in a position to need one....

IMO- Miles is not experienced enough for the Cup level. It showed during the race. I don't blame Miles for a crew member mistake (mistakes happen), but the drive thru penalty call was all on Miles. Even Patrick (spotter) knew it was a stop & go penalty. Patrick told Robby he had to stop...but Miles came over the radio over-riding with "Drive thru, it's a drive thru penalty!" Turned out Miles was wrong.

Yes, Miles made a mistake , he is only human after all. As they say "shit happens" , often at the worst possible time. The race is over, time to move on .....

Miles ASKED the official who told him it was a drive through...Hindsight always 20/20 , but pretty sure NONE OF US can remember the LAST time the team got a penalty for "EQUIPMENT OUT OF BOX"......prior to Saturday...

I can't recall the last time actually. On a side note, engine seemed to hold up just fine. Any issues found ? If not, then that would be a positive to take away from the race.

Miles is someone I would quantify as a "island of genius" within a very deep, but exceedingly narrow window of specific abilities that is understood to a near perfect level, while other more common essential abilities including interpersonal skills seem to be severely impaired to the extent of giving the lasting impression of one who is socially retarded. In clinical circles, he could be regarded as a "knowledgeable idiot"or "learned idiot" which also parallel traits of savantism.

Perhaps there will come a day when Miles Stanley will be mentioned in the same sentence as others of his ilk such as, Jonathan Lerman, Gilles Tréhin, or James Henry Pullen.

Then again, he'll probably disappear into motorsports obscurity having established himself as the Simple Jack of auto racing.
