STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5: AREQUIPA > ARICA

Connection 337km | Special Stage 172km | Total 509km

COURSE OVERVIEW

A relatively late start will allow the slowest competitors to make up for time lost the day before, as well as to cope with the time change which has been scheduled. For this transition stage which will see the rally enter Chile, the contrast will be visible both in terms of the variety of scenery and the average speeds recorded at the finish. The tracks taken by the motorcyclists will take their toll on their arms: the environment is favourable to attacks, but the stony sections and the rivers to be crossed in some areas will curb their enthusiasm. Those in four-wheeled vehicles will also criss cross between the first reliefs, from valley to valley, with the eyes of the navigators glued to the road book.

Just have to get over the mountain , then it's all downhill ....

319 Viggy starts 38 Min ahead of RG. My goal catch & pass Viggy!

Not a long Special.. only about 100 miles or so. BTW it looks like the start of the special for the cars was pushed back about 30 minutes.. Nasser was scheduled to start at 11:25 but has started at 11:55. If that's the case, RG will not start until 13:13 EST.

This is totally a type of stage where Alibaba demolishes his bugly... He is just too hard on these types of cars in this type of terrian.

So apparently RG started 27th, instead of 93rd or whatever it was; so he should be getting to WP1 within the next 10 minutes

Hummer wide open throttle!! 3rd @wp1

1 303 SAINZ (ESP), GÖTTSCHALK (DEU) BUGGY 000:18:06 00:00:00
2 300 AL-ATTIYAH (QAT), CRUZ (ESP) BUGGY 000:18:15 00:00:09 00:00:00
3 315 GORDON (USA), WALCH (USA) HUMMER 000:18:19 00:00:13 00:00:00
4 302 PETERHANSEL (CHE), COTTRET (FRA) MINI 000:18:32 00:00:26 00:00:00

He may win this stage. I've seen him do it before! Just sayin.

Seems like this year on the stages where Gordon is faster than the Minis, the buggies are faster than Gordon. I don't see many stage wins for him unless the buggies break down. The way Al drives, that's possible.

Yeah that was in the sand/dunes where a lighter sandrail type buggy is best. We'll have to wait and see how they hold up to more desert style racing in the rest of the stages.

RG faster than both bugglies today.
