STAGE 5 TRACKING

STAGE 5: SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY > UYUNI

Connection 315km | Special Stage 327km | Total 642km

COURSE OVERVIEW

All round vigilance is required for this second part of the marathon stage: in addition to managing mechanics, particularly the tyres, all the drivers will have to pay attention to their own bodies’ reactions. Entry into Bolivia is also marked by an abrupt increase in altitude, rising to 4,600m –the higher point in Dakar’s story- during the day’s special section. Technically, it is also in this stage that the rally steps up a gear, with the first off-piste sections as well as some navigational gems which might be a headache for some navigators…

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

I would like the ASO to experience RG sitting out for a year. Maybe realize what he brings to the table in terms of marketability

Kinda sounded like he was making that threat.

They wouldn't care. Dakar has always been a very Euro focussed competition and unless more Americans joined the Dakar they wouldn't notice.

Do not tempt fate. He is part of the " Circus" they are trying to keep. RG would have to do something really silly for that too happen. Cannot possibly see it.

The course seems to get further away from Dakar, and closer to WRC the last few years. The torque on a turbo diesel could be a big advantage with this kind of stop n go racing. Not sure how to equalize the field with so many variants, unless you just say, bring wut you got?

Easy, Get rid of all the restrictors.

Displacement restrictions only, Why all the engine rules anyway? Its not like they are trying to keep it affordable...

Gordon plainly frustrated in interview NBCSN. Looks like this might be his last Dakar.

Shame, Gordini is performing great, huge improvements from last year. Good finish this year means a better starting position next year.

Its their sandbox, thats what make kicking their ass smell so much better.

Problem is barely anyone cares in the States that will see it. That type of threat needs to air all over South America, and then ASO will really get some hate mail.

SST is a global marketing tool, and it appears to be gaining strength. SST seems to be the most watchable, and entertaining "offroad" racing venue. Fans will follow

Global, a strong word, most people outside NA would not know it exists. Needs more mainstream TV
