Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 2 of the 2015 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon finished 2nd in stage 1, and is only 42s behind in the overall standings.The special section of Stage 2 is 518km long. Robby Gordon start time: 7:10am/et. COURSE OVERVIEW

Any rest will be short-lived, because before reaching San Juan, the competitors will have a particularly busy schedule: quite simply the longest special stage in the rally, which is varied enough to unsettle even the most experienced of drivers. Hard terrain at the start of the race will be followed by dusty sections in the middle of the day and a sandy stretch to finish. This is the first real test, which can only be successfully overcome through constant vigilance.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Really? I didn't know they even existed. On what basis are they awarded? Can they carry over year to year? And how far can they jump you up? Obviously, this would be a good time to use it. I would think. Another aspect that I never knew existed.

I have no answers to any of those questions as I have a feeling I would would go into a coma of confusion if I tried to read the ASO rule book.

and it's translated from French.and you need to know how the ASO amendments apply to the FIA rule Rally Raid rule book. Believe it or not a NASCAR 'CUP' rule book is harder to follow.TOG sent me one a couple years ago (before the gen 6)

I would use the extra time and start as late as possible. Make absolutely sure the rig is as readtyas it can be!

"Elite" driver privilege, I think you only get 2 per DAKAR.no carry over.Minor chance you get 3,pretty sure just 2.They don't want the really fast guys running over slower 'sportsman' driver's.safety deal.

Roma was about 135th first stage and started 16th today. In the past Robby has used them and started 20 or 25th or so. So that is the range.

Any word yet as to what required the tow?

Did the brake fire (likely a stuck caliper??) take out the seal and bearing? If so, the tow would have been just as damaging as motoring. Or was there an engine/drive-line problem?

Here it is, 9pm on the west coast, and both the Dakar site and the Dutch tracking site show only 60 cars making it to the finish line. If true, that's….less than half of today's starters,

Some pretty fearful attrition for only the second day of the show.

Just to throw this out...break failure on right rear is the same side that ripped apart the stage on one of Robbys jumps. Coincidence?
