STAGE 2 TRACKING

STAGE 2: VILLA CARLOS PAZ > SAN JUAN

Connection 107km | Special Stage 518km | Total 625km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Any rest will be short-lived, because before reaching San Juan, the competitors will have a particularly busy schedule: quite simply the longest special stage in the rally, which is varied enough to unsettle even the most experienced of drivers. Hard terrain at the start of the race will be followed by dusty sections in the middle of the day and a sandy stretch to finish. This is the first real test, which can only be successfully overcome through constant vigilance.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

"Elite" driver privilege, I think you only get 2 per DAKAR.no carry over.Minor chance you get 3,pretty sure just 2.They don't want the really fast guys running over slower 'sportsman' driver's.safety deal.

Roma was about 135th first stage and started 16th today. In the past Robby has used them and started 20 or 25th or so. So that is the range.

perhaps a season switch to the rally is in store

tomorrow stage starts at 7:20 am local, that's 5:20et/2:20pt

Any word yet as to what required the tow?

Did the brake fire (likely a stuck caliper??) take out the seal and bearing? If so, the tow would have been just as damaging as motoring. Or was there an engine/drive-line problem?

Here it is, 9pm on the west coast, and both the Dakar site and the Dutch tracking site show only 60 cars making it to the finish line. If true, that's….less than half of today's starters,

Some pretty fearful attrition for only the second day of the show.

Just to throw this out...break failure on right rear is the same side that ripped apart the stage on one of Robbys jumps. Coincidence?
Caliper is up inside the wheel and at the rear end housing height .RDZ coincedence

Vapor lock/fuel intake seems to be the issues that caused him to stop on Stage 2 just before the finish requiring a tow.

Nice speculation, but NOT according to Robby's NBCSports interview that aired today.Just say'n

I got that info from the show I watched today on NBC Sports. They mentioned that then showed a picture of him being towed in. But.....that info did not come out of RG's mouth. It came from the broadcasting crew on NBC Sports.

Do you recall Robby saying the clutch was locked up and the engine wouldn't turn over?being stuck? 16min mark of the episode that air'd today.
