COURSE OVERVIEW

The Dakar leaves Argentina provisionally to cross the Andes mountain range via the Paso de Jama pass. To reach this point, the climb will start during the night. Once they have crossed the border, the crews will ascend to an altitude of 4,800 metres, i.e. the same height as Mont-Blanc, without crampons or ice-picks! In sporting terms, the arrival in Chile also heralds the entrance to the Atacama Desert and the first off-track racing of the rally. The start of the relatively short special stage will take place at 3,300 metres. At this point, the vehicles will have to handle stony terrain as the dunes approach.

Is the start time for cars 8:36 pacific time or am I reading wrong?

Shows 13:36 so I took 5 hrs off that.

Looks like this is true.

Bikes have started and are listed as 11:40 start time.

12:40 Bikes: Coma is pulling away
The first four bikes have made it through CP1 after 81 km of the day’s special and Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM) is still in the lead with the best provisional time, 32” ahead of Cyril Despres (KTM), who as a result loses the virtual lead of the general standings, and 1’26 in front of Portugal’s Ruben Faria (KTM).

On my morning rush hour commute I saw a Ford FLEX and a H3 Hummer side by side

I'm thinking a carbon fibre FLEX body could easily replace the Hummer body...

Vette Engine could easily be relabeled Cobra FoMoCo & we could be back in business.
