Join us for the Dakar Rally's second day on Jan 4, 2009 , right here and chat about the action during the 2nd stage.

Stage 2 - Sunday, January 4
Santa Rosa > Puerto Madryn
Connection: 0 km | Special: 237 km | Connection: 600 km | Total: 837 km
The longest stage of the rally will not necessarily be the most difficult. However, it should still be approached with vigilance and, above all, will a complete set of rally equipment. After a rapid first part of the special, a foretaste of sand will be proposed. On the off-roads of this stage, copilots will need to pay careful attention to their course. The more distracted will begin to “turn in circles”.

Robby lost 4min 9sec to Sainz between CP2 at KM 108 and KM 225
Sounds like it was a lot of sand:

Breaking News
"Many amateur bikers have encountered serious difficulties, 2 km after CP2, due to an especially soft portion of sand on the route"
Robby either got slowed down by the sand or slowed down by the motorcycles and atv's again or both.
looks like he lost more time. He should have been done by now.
We'll find out here shortly. The Dakar site has been a little slow updating the last 10 minutes or so. The "live timing" has 11 cars as finished while the Classments Arrival page has 10. And it didn't update the 10th car to cross until about 7 or 8 minutes after it crossed.

9 min 24 sec back for stage 2

He was 12 min 8 sec back of Sainz after stage one...
If my calculations are right, Robby will be 21min 32 sec behind Sainz in the Overall ranking.
Yeah, they have it up in the classments. 21:32 back in the overall.
Good day so far. Lost some time to the leader but improved his place. Better start point for tomorrow
Looks like Robby only lost about 4 seconds in the final 12km between KM225 and the Arrival at KM237.
