STAGE 11: LA RIOJA > LA FIAMBALA

Connection 262km | Special Stage 219km | Total 481km

COURSE OVERVIEW

It is very rare for nothing to happen in Fiambalà! And in 2012 rain ensured that this lethal white sand remained firm, allowing the vehicles of the Dakar to pass through this prime spot for getting blocked and for engines to overheat, without recoiling or stalling. These dunes with their very welcoming contours typically have a very unpleasant surprise in store for competitors. Everything is possible in Fiambalá, including in the new strings of dunes featured on the route. The third part of the rally will boast sand once again, and each person will have to adapt his driving and his general approach to the terrain: those who are less attentive will also risk making serious navigational mistakes which will cost them dearly.

Now we are getting to the stages where I STRONGLY believe RG will start reeling off some wins.

Thanks TOG....I hope we can keep the site alive. No where else does a fan site like this exist...

My friend says Kurt Busch has a site that's really good, I told him once he gets a clip of him in another county with 3-400 people chanting his name ill check it out. That was 5-6years ago

KB has a site, LOL, come on.. and why is that, cause he knows how to do left turns, hahaha,

I guess it's got a chat and some awesome video clips I bet the top one has RG in it

I have a sister-in-law who's a big Busch Brothers fan. Had to block her stuff on Facebook because it was so lame....LOL Really, there's no excitement left in NASCAR sweetheart... I was a 30-year fan who quit watching more than a few years ago. I knew it got bad when RG stopped showing up for the road courses even.

+1

or 400 people flipping KB off

+1....Check this site Daily. Robby is the Man!!!

Seems we will get some drama. From francetvsport:

After completing the recognition of the special, the recon team had a merchant sentence that came to their mind "it's a bit more than what you requested, but I'll add it anyway ...".

Fiambala is the "Alpe d'Huez" of the Dakar South American version ("Alpe d'Huez" is the hardest stage
(extremely steep) of the "Tour de France" (bicycle)).
The organizers of the Tour de France, for this summer, doubled this harrowing climb (twice back to back) in the same stage.
Doubling the Fiambala loop would have been shear madness, but not to be outdone, Castera and Lavigne decided to extend the classic.
"We put together an extension of the route that will not necessarily be decisive, but will
prolong the difficulty, and as a consequence, increase the efforts and the potential ordeals."
The malice in Castera voice let us think that the Fiambala 2013 vintage will be one of the best.
"Anyway, it is often the weather that decides the level of difficulty of Fiambala" said Castera.
Past year it rained the day before the rally and suddenly, the sand was relatively firm, making the stage easier than expected.
The recon team, this year, experienced a sandstorm and the temperature was 35C!
"There is always a very strange weather here."
Know that the recon team battled one day and a half to come to the end of the 220km special!
It is not certain that this stage will be extremely hard. But it is certain that this classic Dakar stage, extended this year, will surely generate, big time gaps between competitors, and dropouts on the evening of January 16.

I didn't see a map of the stage earlier so I drew one
